track 4. love bites

that tuesday was one of the slowest days at work the whole year. as summer started to die down and the closer it got to kids going back to school, the less customers they got. so after hours of nothing but a few regular customers, steve didnt even look up when he heard the door open and the bell ring.

"welcome to family video, can i help you find anything?" still wasn't paying attention, just reading a magazine that honestly wasn't that interesting. he had no idea that eddie was leaning on the counter on his elbows, looking over at steve annoyed.

"cant even look up to see your favorite customer?" he dropped the magazine, almost scared at the sound of eddie's voice just inches away from him.

"shit!! what are you doing here? you never come in here" steve tried to ignore the way eddie smiled when he finally looked up at him, he was only wearing his vest since it was nearly 100 outside that day. so he couldn't help but have his eyes wander to eddie's bare arms, that were covered in little tattoos some new some steve remembers. had he been working out or something? he didn't remember him looking that good, or maybe he did and it just took steve that long to notice.

eddie snapped his fingers in front of steve's face, laughing when he stopped staring at his arms and blushing like crazy. "geez, buy a guy dinner before you start undressing him with your eyes"

"um...i wasn't..i was just about to go get lunch do you want to go with me" he sounded nervous, hoping he wasn't pushing it too far.

"see, that's how you do it, no wonder you have so much trouble with girls" he finally backed away from the counter, turning the corner to go look at the horror movies and leaving steve alone with his thoughts and stupidly watching eddie's every move. when he finally found something he liked he put it on the counter, humming some song steve definitely thought he knew but couldn't remember.

"you....like evil dead?" steve stared at the cover, robin had made him watch it hundreds of times and he loved the movie so much.

"are you trying to tell me you do? wouldn't take you as the type to watch it" before he could even get the money out of his wallet steve had already paid for it, eddie turning his head to look at him almost like a confused puppy.

"i've got it man, i love that movie we could watch it later if you want? today has been slow already, im sure no one would mind"  he was rambling like robin did when she was nervous around a girl, and that made eddie smile so much that he hoped he didn't look like an idiot.

"okay why don't we go pick up food and bring it back here, then we can watch it? and don't try to pay for my food too harrington i do have money" he started to walk out the door, opening the car door for steve just to be nice. they sat in silence for a while until eddie turned on the radio, putting in a cassette for yet another band that steve hadn't heard of. he laid close attention to the way eddie hummed along to the song, gently tapping the steering wheel as he drove. he was mesmerized, the sun was hitting eddie's face in all the right places shining through the window.

he hadn't noticed steve staring at all, he was too focused on driving and being lost in his own head. they went to go get pizza, and eddie got pulled aside a while because mike and will just so happened to be there. normally steve would've been annoyed, but he was in awe by how easily he talked to the kids. he realized he actually wouldn't mind them both "babysitting" at the same time, and as mike and will left they yelled "bye mom and dad!!!" and it made eddie laugh a little bit.

"what did they have to say?" steve carried the pizza out to eddie's car, still hearing the kids giggling about something as they walked to mrs wheelers car. she waved to the two boys, and steve waved back just because he was being nice but too notice to how nervous his friend had seemed.

"i think those two kids are in love or something very close to it" he started up the car, speaking really quietly which was far off from how he normally acted. "mike was asking me for advice on uh...liking boys"

steve just stared at him, looking a little lost and confused. "what did you tell him?"

"that i already could tell he was, takes one to know one and to take his chances with will" it took steve forever to know what that meant, and when it hit him he took a quick little glance at eddie. neither of them said anything as they went back to family video, and this time eddie didn't open the door for steve and he didn't wait for him before going inside.

he tried to follow him as fast as possible, setting up the tv in the break room and rewinding the tape to the beginning.

"hey just so you know, i won't judge if you're yknow-..." he did a weird hand gesture, trying to figure out the right word. eddie seemed to know what he meant, he handed him the pizza and just nodded.

"good to know, glad you don't think i'm a freak"

"never have munson, never have" the two of them sat across from the tv, just watching the movie. they were sitting so close their knees touched, but neither of them seemed to mind and they ate in silence while the movie played.

halfway through steve looked over at eddie, who wasn't taking his eyes off of the tv. he noticed how when he got scared his eyes would go wide and he would gasp, even though it wasn't all that scary he had never seen it before so he still jumped a few times. at one point he accidentally jumped so much steve put his arm around him, it was just an instant reaction that he normally had. but that was when he went to go see movies with girls, not his guy best friend. eddie didn't mind though he stayed like that, he leaned into his touch even as the movie ended he still stayed there.

without the background noise of the movie it was way too obvious that they were leaning up against one another, against the blanket steve had grabbed for them to sit on.

he knew that eventually one of them was going to have to break this awkward silence, so steve cleared his throat and looked over at him. "eddie? i think i like guys" he moved back a little just in case he got a bad reaction, but eddie pulled him back even closer.

they were only inches apart now, and steve wanted more than anything just to kiss him right now. he couldn't stop staring at his lips, shocked when eddie closed the gap between them and kissed him. it wasn't perfect, it was a little too rough and eddie tasted like weed and soda right now but still steve thought it was the best kiss he's ever had. he pulled him closer, eddie ending up on his lap. neither of them heard the front door open they were too focused on making out with each other, steve's hands pulling on eddie's hair.

he accidentally moaned his best friends name, well if you could even say best friend anymore. falling off of him when he heard a knock on the door, he panicked, looking at steve with the most scared look on his face. but steve just held his hand, waiting to hear who was there.
