steve started to get restless as it had already been 15 minutes into his break and eddie still hadn't shown up. robin had left to go get food so steve was completely alone, pacing around the store as he was thinking of the worst possible scenarios.
the door open so fast, and steve looked up to see eddie and....the kids? dustin and mike ran to the sci-fi section, lucas and max following them after a few minutes. he was happy to see all of the kids again, but sad because they had no idea about him and eddie so he had to be careful.
when the kids were distracted enough eddie pulled steve to the side and whispered in his ear "sorry babe, they just insisted on me bringing them to the arcade after hellfire was over...i can't say no to them" and that made him laugh quietly.
"i'm just glad you're here, i missed you" he turned to make sure the kids were still occupied, before sighing "oh and warn me next time, when you plan on making it hard for me to walk"
eddie blushed, covering steve's mouth with his hand so he wouldn't say anything else like that just yet "there are kids in here stevie"
though they had been lucky with the kids not hearing them, dustin looked around the corner confused "stevie?" and the whole group started laughing. they picked out a bunch of movies, stating that mikes mom was letting them have a movie night at his house. eddie was of course invited, but it was tuesday and his band took a little bit more priority over a bunch of teenagers. but when dustin invited steve he was torn, he really wanted to be there for dustin but eddie....
oh well, one of them was bound to be upset about tonight and he didn't want that to be the boy he very recently confessed to.
"as much as i'd love that, i'm a little busy tonight too. but we can hang some other time okay?" he tried to fake a smile because he was hurt by how disappointed dustin and the gang looked. but after he grabbed their movies, dustin smiled and jokingly said "thanks mom!"
they all piled into eddie's van, waiting very impatiently for him as they kept honking the horn at him. from their view, they couldn't see that eddie leaned over the counter to kiss steve quickly. they both laughed as they heard dustin yell outside "you're a horrible dad! leaving your kids out in a hot car!"
"you're dad?" steve smiled, wishing edie could just stay forever but he knew he couldn't and he had to get back to work since robin wasn't there.
"yeah just don't call me daddy, keep it in your pants pretty boy" he turned to walk away, adding "for now" to the end of his sentence before he left and drove away. leaving steve very flustered and missing him, not knowing exactly what he meant by that.
steve spent the whole hour before eddie's gig trying to decide what to wear, what the hell did you wear to see a metal band anyways? he knew he was going to look out of place no matter what. he grabbed the darkest pair of jeans he owned, and a queen shirt he had stolen from jonathan a while ago. he looked in the mirror about a hundred times, calling robin right before he left to tell her what he'd be doing that night.
he didn't know why he was still so nervous, the butterflies in his stomach never went away no matter how many times he saw eddie. he just couldn't get over him, everything about him was almost intoxicating. the moment he got there he saw his entire face light up, and seeing eddie hold his guitar again..after everything that had happened last year was a little off putting but good to see at the same time.
he was only kind of listening to the music, his focus was on the pretty long haired guitar player the whole time. watching him play was mesmerizing to say the least, so much that he didn't even notice when they had stopped playing and eddie's friend had to point out that steve was obviously staring at him. of course a few people asked why he was there, and it hurt him to say "just supporting a friend"
that wasn't all they were, right? steve knew better than that. seeing the slightly hurt look on eddie's face was unbearable to see, but he tried to smile to show he knew he hadn't meant that. once the band and most of the crowd had left, steve pulled him aside to talk to him for the first time since earlier at the video store.
"you did amazing, i already knew you would but you keep surprising me!" and he felt so much better to see that had made eddie genuinely smile.
"you're a terrible liar, all my friends know i'm gay. and that steve harrington doesn't just show up to a metal gig just for fun"
"so...they aren't going to hate crime me?"
that made them both laugh, and as they walked back to where they were both parked steve started to shiver. without saying a word, eddie took his leather jacket off and handed it to steve. when he put it on he remembered the moment he had first realized he had feeling for him, when they were on their way to defeat vecna. it was the same, but this time as they walked he felt eddie's hand brush up against him and he intertwined their fingers.
it was something so small, but holding hands with eddie munson was the best thing he could ask for.
"i never asked the other night...what exactly is this? you and me?"
eddie looked a little confused, stopping when they reached his van. he picked up steve and sat him down on the hood of his car, looking up at him like it was some cheesy 50s romance movie.
"if you haven't already figured it out, im in line with you steve harrington"
"and i'm in love with you, eddie munson"
he held onto steve's waist so he wouldn't fall, kissing him under the moonlight just like he always imagined.
"i think that answers your question stevie, i'll be yours if you'll be mine"
/ mom steve & dad eddie❤️ felt like writing so this was fast
