Talk To Me

"Come now Bradley, I have to go!" (Y/n) smiled, gently pulling her leg away from the toddler clinging to her leg.

But he didn't seem to want to let go, he kept clinging to her.

"Goose will you help me out?" (Y/n) sighed, exasperated, "I need to go now!"

Goose came over, smiling at his wife, "Alright alright." He grabbed the young toddler, the toddler reaching out.

"Mama!" He whined, tears welling in his eyes.

(Y/n) smiled sympathetically, squishing the toddlers cheeks together lightly, before kissing him in the forehead.

"I'll be okay." She smiled, "I'll be flying with the 'Best Pilot in the Navy'." (Y/n) exaggerated, Goose letting out a laugh.

After a few moments of comforting Bradley, he finally settled down.

"I'll be back this afternoon!" (Y/n) smiled, before pulling her husband into a loving kiss.

Right when they pulled away, Goose was smiling like a dope, "I love you."

"I love you too."

"Iceman, move!" Maverick shouted, Iceman still trying to get tone on the instructor.

"God damn it!" Iceman cursed, finally moving, only for a rumble to travel through (Y/n) and Maverick's plane.

"Oh shit!" Maverick cursed, moving the useless stick around, the jet not obeying, nosediving and moving every which way that wind and gravity took it.

"Jet wash, jet wash!" (Y/n) shouted in comms, helplessness seeping into her. There was absolutely nothing she could do in this situation, the sky and sea merging into one big blue blob. She couldn't tell which direction she was looking, though she knew for a fact which direction she was moving. "Cmon Mav, get ahold of the jet!"

(Y/n) tried to encourage, though fear was prominent in her voice, the only thing on her mind was her husband and son.

"Fuck! I can't get it!" Maverick shouted, "Eject, eject!"

At that, (Y/n) reached above her, hesitating for a moment, before pulling on it.

Right as they ejected, (Y/n) looked up, noticing the canopy didn't move, the last thing she felt was something slam into her back...before darkness.

§

"Oh shit!" Maverick swam, the limp body of (Y/n) falling into the water, her eyes open and lifeless, though somehow still enrapturing the fear in her last moments.

"No no no, this can't be happening!" Maverick shouted, water getting into his nose, ears, throat, though the burn wasn't nearly as bad as what he felt internally.

The sting in his eyes he couldn't tell if it was the sea water or tears, holding onto her body like a lifeline. Ke kept her body on top of his, as if hoping that she was unconscious. Blood was seeping into the water, getting on Maverick, staining anything and everything red.

In a few short minutes, search and rescue came in, "Sir you need to let go of her."

Maverick held onto her cold skin like a lifeline, shaking his head.

"Captain, let her go." The rescuer urged.

Maverick gulped thickly, tears welling in his eyes-

-before letting her go.

The funeral was closed casket, major damage having been done to her back and other issues that weren't disclosed.

Goose sat with Bradley, the young child having passed out from crying for hours.

Goose was no better, dried tear streaks down his face, puffy eyes, red being prominent in the whites of his eyes.

Maverick stood in front of the closed casket, which was about to be taken away.

"I'm so sorry Goose." He whispered, "This is all my fault..."

Goose bit his lip, trying not to cry more than he already had today, "It's not your fault Pete."

Maverick shook his head, not responding, feeling a lump forming in his throat, the urge to break down right there was prominent.

"You have to keep flying." Goose broke the silence, Maverick looking back at him, "She would've, though she would've hated it, she would've done it."

Maverick shook his head, a lone tear falling from his eye, letting out a meek nod.

"She loved flying with you Mav." Goose's voice broke, remembering his wife's smile when she came home to him, ranting about something dumb, but exciting, she'd done with Maverick that day.

Maverick clenched onto the cool metal objects in his hand, almost to the point of piercing the skin, memories of the times they'd spent together playing on a loop in his head.

"Talk to me (C/s)..."
