miki was finishing up her essay as she could hear quiet snoring from the seat beside her.
she turned her head only to find the boy fast asleep.

miki found great comfort in the boy's current state.
his mouth was slightly agape while his head was resting against his arm.
for a moment, miki forgot all the hatred she had ever felt for the boy.
he looked so innocent and peaceful.

suddenly his calm expression turned into a deep frown.
miki could see a glimpse of fear evident on his face as he was squinting his eyes while mumbling something inaudibly.

miki reached her hand over to shake the boy awake.
suddenly he opened his eyes before sitting up straight while he was gasping for air.
a single tear rolled down his cheek as his expression was unreadable.

miki didn't know how to act.
he seemed like he saw something very upsetting in his dream and miki wasn't sure if he wanted to talk to her about it.

after a while, miki decided to speak up.
"is everything okay?"

riki turned to her direction as he was still recovering from his intense nightmare.
"yeah, don't worry about it"

miki didn't want to ask more questions as she could sense that he was still in a state of shock.
but still she couldn't help but wonder what the boy saw in his dream..

miki glanced at the clock on the wall.
5:30 pm
the school closed 30 minutes ago, which meant most of the doors were locked by now.

miki stood up and ran to the door franctically only to find out what she had feared.
the door was locked.

riki was taken aback by the girl's sudden stressed state.
he decided to glance at the clock.
his eyes grew wide before he was sent into a state of panic.
he ran to the door, trying to push it open but it wouldn't budge.

the two glanced at each other with panicked expressions.

"what do we do now!?"
miki yelled as she was thinking about all the possible consequenses she would have to face if they didn't get out of the school quickly.

riki couldn't think as he stared at the door hoping that it would magically open if he just stared at it enough.

miki was getting frustrated as the door still wouldn't budge after numerous attempts of trying to open it.

"this is your fault,
you shouldn't have fallen asleep!"
miki decided to shift the blame on the boy who slept through the whole detention.

"what does that have to do with anything!?"
riki was getting irritated by her accusations.

the two continued to bicker about who was to blame for their current situation.
at the same time mr. kang was rushing to the classroom as he realized he had completely forgotten about the two.

the door flew open revealing a panting mr. kang who was looking at the two students apologetically.

when the two made it out of the school, it was already dark outside.
no school buses were available at this time which left them to walk home.

they were walking side by side in silence before riki spoke.
"i can't go home.
my dad will kill me if i arrive at this hour"

miki remembered the incident she witnessed of riki's father kicking him out.
she understood the boy's worry.

"my parents are on a business trip.
you can stay at my place, unless you have somewhere else to go"

riki thought about her offer before realizing he didn't really have other options.
"if you're okay with it"

when they arrived at her place, it was quiet.
no lights could be seen as no one was home.
this was a normal sight for miki, as her parents were hardly ever home.
miki often felt lonely living in the house all by herself.
a part of her was glad that riki was staying over.

"you're sleeping on the couch, i'm keeping my bed.
i would give you the guest room but it belongs to heesung temporarily.
he's on a trip with his friends and won't be back until next week"
with that miki left the boy alone in the living room before rushing to her own room.

riki wandered around the spacious house.
he wondered how it felt to live in a place this big. somehow it felt empty.
all that could be heard was the ticking sound of the clock and the water traveling through the pipes.

but in that moment, he felt safe.
it was quiet.
no one was around to tell him how much of a disappointment he was or how he didn't try hard enough.

he was at peace, in a house with the only person he truly cared for and felt safe around.
riki couldn't recall at what point he started feeling this way around her.
all he knew was that she made him happy.
even when she didn't try, only her presence alone brought him joy.
that night he went to sleep with only one thing on his mind.

"lee miki, what are you doing to me.."
