miki was pacing her room while stopping every few seconds to check her messages.
no reply.
riki had been out of reach for hours now.
miki's worry kept increasing by the second.

she had heard some students talking about riki running out of school in the middle of the day.
no one knew where he went.

miki felt bad after the incident with him at school.
she didn't mean to say what she said.
she regretted not giving the boy time to explain his side of the story.
and now he was somewhere, alone and out of reach.
miki couldn't help but blame herself.

miki grew impatient as no reply was coming from the boy.
something was definitely wrong.
she tried calling all of his friends to ask if they had been able to reach him.
no one had heard from the boy.

the worry was starting to get too overwhelming for her as she ran downstairs to grab her coat and shoes.
there was only one person she hadn't asked.

miki was feeling nervous as she was reaching riki's doorstep.
she didn't know where else to go.
she was afraid of meeting the person she had grown to despise, riki's father.

she took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell.
no response.
miki rang the doorbell again.
she wasn't going to give up.
after a short while the door was opened by an old man who was eyeing the girl with an irritated frown as he looked like he had just woken up from his sleep.

"what are you doing ringing people's doorbells at this hour, young girl?"
the man asked with an angry tone as he glared at the girl.

miki was trying to calm herself so she wouldn't lose her temper.

"hey sir, i was wondering if you have heard from riki?
he has been out of reach for a while now"
miki asked as politely as she could as she was gritting her teeth through the sentence while faking a smile to the man.

riki's father let out an amused laugh before speaking.
"how would i know about that?
i'd be more than happy if that little piece of trash was taken off my list of resbonsibilities"

miki couldn't hold it anymore.
she was gritting her teeth together so hard it felt like they would break.
she was using all of her strength to not attack the old man physically.

"you know what sir?"

the man looked up at the girl with an uninterested look in his eyes.

"your son is such an incredible person.
he is very dear to so many people, including me.
he is nothing like you and he will never be, because he is better than the garbage of a human you are"

miki paused for a while as she was finding it hard to hold her tears that were threatening to fall.
while the old man was only looking at her with a cold stare.
miki looked up at the man with courage as she continued.

"your son is kind and cheerful even while he has to put up with someone like you as a father.
i hope that one day you stop to think about what you have caused to the people in your life and regret the decisions you've made.
because frankly speaking, you don't deserve any of the people you have in your life"

with that miki turned around and began walking away from the man, who was left there standing speechless.
miki didn't look back at the man while she could feel a small victorious smile creeping up on her lips.

miki didn't know where she was headed.
she felt hopeless.
riki was somewhere alone in the cold and it was all beacause of her.

as miki kept walking she could feel raindrops falling on her skin.
however, she kept walking despite of the rain as she was desperate to find the boy.

after a while of walking she decided to pass through the park the two enjoyed spending time at.
she had no idea where the boy was, so it was worth it to check all the places she could think of.

as she had walked further into the park, she could see a figure sitting next to a tree in the distance.
it was raining heavily.
no person would be out in the rain at this time.

as she got closer she realized what tree it was.
it was their tree.
she ran towards the person who was sitting next to the tree while curled up in a ball.

"riki?"
miki asked with hope in her voice as she was standing a few feet away from the boy.

the boy lifted his head up at the sound of the girl's voice.
his heart jumped as he realized it was really her.
he was sure it was all in his head.

"miki?
is it really you?"
riki asked with a quiet voice before he got up slowly as he was struggling to stand up.
his body was too weak and cold from the time he had spent outside.

miki's heart broke at the sight of the boy.
he was pale and struggling to hold himself up.

miki walked up to the boy quickly to check up on him.
she lifted her hands to hold his cheeks, they were ice cold.
miki looked at the boy's tired eyes while she could feel tears falling down her cheeks.

"i'm sorry"
riki mumbled before his body suddenly collapsed in the girl's arms.
