miki was walking towards the school garden as she had a free period before the next class.
on her way she spotted the boy sitting on a bench in the distance.

miki sat next to the boy who was peacefully scribbling down something in his notebook.

"what are you drawing?"
miki asked as she sat down next to the boy while scooting closer to see his drawing.

riki turned his notebook shyly as he wasn't confident in his work.
however the girl grabbed the notebook from his hands and turned the pages as she was in awe from the boy's talent.

"these are amazing!"
miki exclaimed as she continued scrolling through the pages.
the boy only smiled as he could feel his cheeks flushing to a shade of pink.

after a while of miki admiring the boy's drawings she turned the page to the drawing he was working on earlier.
it was a drawing of her.

riki looked at the girl anxiously as she was staring at the page without uttering a word.

"do you like it?"

miki turned her head to look at the boy who was eager to hear her opinion.
miki smiled warmly at the boy before embracing him in a warm hug.

"i love it"

the boy was taken aback by the sudden hug but he slowly slid his hands around her to return the embrace.

miki realized in that moment just how much he meant to her.
she had started to love the way he made her feel.
safe and loved.

miki never really got to experience these feelings growing up.
as her parents were rarely home, she was left with the responsibility of raising herself.
she didn't hate her parents, but her love for them died at a very young age as they started being more absent in her life.

riki had become such an important person in her life in such a short time.
just a few months ago she was sure she couldn't hate anything as much as she hated him.
now all she could think about was him.

miki pulled away from the hug as she looked at the boy with a bright smile.

"thank you"

riki was confused by the girl's sudden mood change but he couldn't help but smile as the girl was looking at him.
the look in her eyes was something he had only dreamed of.
the hatred that was once all he could see in her eyes was now all gone.

as miki was looking at the boy she noticed a red mark on his cheekbone.
she reached her hand to touch it.
"where did this come from?"

riki quickly turned his head to hide the bruise from the girl.
truth is, he didn't want her to notice it.
because the story behind it was painful for him to talk about.

"can we talk after school? my class starts soon"
riki said as he got up before making his way towards the school building.

miki was left there to wonder.
she was worried for the boy as she had a bad feeling about the possible cause for the bruise on his cheek.

miki was waiting for the boy outside as they had promised to meet at the school gates.
after a while miki could see the boy walking towards her. she waved her hand at him but
the boy only smiled slightly before averting his gaze back to the ground.

the walk was painfully quiet.
riki wasn't sure where to start.
a part of him was scared.

"you know, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to"
miki said to break the silence as she could sense the boy's anxious state.

"do you remember that nightmare i had once?"
riki spoke suddenly as he was staring at the ground, unable to look at the girl.

miki had already put the pieces together earlier.
she had a bad feeling of where this was going.

"my mother died when she gave birth to me.
so my dad blamed me for her death and began hating me since birth.
he never loved me.
all he's ever done is tell me how dissapointed i make him and how he wishes i wasn't born"
riki explained while trying to hold his tears that were threatening to fall.
through the sadness he was able to let out a bitter laugh as he continued.

"so throughout my childhood i've always been treated poorly by him.
whenever he had a bad day or i did something to anger him in the slightest, he would take it out on me"
riki said while tracing the bruise on his cheek.

miki could only look at the boy with a worried expression.
he's been through a lot.
miki could feel anger growing inside of her as she thought about riki's father.
he was a horrible man.

"you're so strong, riki.
thank you for telling me"
miki said as she was eyeing the boy with sympathy.
she reached out her hand to hold his hand, giving it a slight squeeze.

riki smiled at the girl's action.
the way she listened to him and was there for him as he talked about his painful experiences.
what did he ever do to deserve someone like her.

"you better get going, it's getting dark"
riki said as they made it to her house.

miki was about to walk to her door before she turned around to face the boy.
she tiptoed slightly to place a gentle kiss on his cheek before quickly entering her house, leaving the boy to stand behind the door with wide eyes and an amused smile.
