Lexi was sleeping soundly when my alarm woke me so I left her in bed, smiling like an idiot as I left the room and wondered if last night was truly real.

I have a morning class and she has a morning practice so I figured I'd start boyfriend-hood with a bang and make her breakfast.

I know her meal plan must be as strict as the hockey team's so I veto her childhood favourite of blueberry pancakes and instead start making her an omelette with peppers and cubed potato.

It's at times like this I praise the Universe for Sam's Mom. Caroline insisted her children cook one meal a week at home once they started High School and although it was meant to teach them independence, she always go stuck in. As property of the state I couldn't stay with the Porters permanently and lord knows they had bigger things to worry about than me, but Caroline always made sure I ate a hot meal when I visited and taught me as much as she could.

The first recipe I mastered? An omelette.

"Something smells like my Mom's kitchen." Sam calls out as he wanders in, followed by Kate and Lia.

I quirked at eyebrow at the trio and gave Sam a look that clearly said, 'Seriously bro? Two of them.'

He frowned at my look and then turned to his left and right, taking stock of the sleepy girls trailing behind him. His face was fit for a movie poster when he turned back to look at me, eyebrows touching his hairline and his mouth a giant 'o'. Sam waved his hands in front of himself frantically.

"Oh no no, don't you go making assumptions Jennings. I know you. If you let that idea sit in your brain long enough, it'll be less than an hour before these poor girls are being hailed 'Sammy's side-hoes.'"

"What the fuck did you just call me?" Lia grumbles, blindly reaching for a coffee mug.

Sam looks even more alarmed now than he did before as he turns to Lia.

"That is not what I meant." He protests and I laugh my ass off, mostly from pride that I didn't even have to say a word to start this. Sam grabbed a shovel and started digging this hole all on his own.

He grabs some glasses and juice for the girls, placing them on the kitchen table so they could help themselves and then storms back over to me and spams my forehead with the core of a pepper I've diced.

"You're a real shit Mason." he scolds.

"I didn't do anything." I protest, then I nod to the pepper core, "Put the vegetable down before you hurt yourself big boy."

Sam glares at me and instead of putting it down like a normal person, he drops it in my juice, wiping his hands dramatically afterwards and grinning to himself.

"Immaturity becomes you my friend." I respond, flicking him with egg with the spatula I'm using.

"Asswipe." He half grumbles, half chuckles while grabbing a paper towel to clean off his face.
