The Shift

I had never been more nervous about anything in my life. You'd think that I'd be fine now that I'd met everyone, but really I was scared out of my mind. I mean the first day was always a trainwreck for me, and despite my newfound lifestyle, school brought out the nerdy side of me. And no one here had seen that, let alone even knew I had one.

I tied up my laces, and took one last look at myself. Letting out a deep breath, I heard my dad's voice ring throughout the house. 'Breakfast guys, get down here' He yelled. I sighed before I grabbed my phone, wallet and keys, along with my new backpack.

I think I was mainly worried about Beth's project, along with Cat's threat. For some reason I couldn't help but think someone might catch on, which would really fuck things up. And, to top things off, Justin and I hadn't talked since his party on Wednesday. After he kissed me, his mom called, so I left. He never texted or called me back, and Johnny never had him over either. So, today would be the first time I'd be seeing him, and I had no idea what his deal was.

'You look hot' Beth said as she caught up with me on the stairs. 'Thanks, might as well make an effort' I said. 'But you're taken' She said jokingly. 'I'm not taken' I said and she smirked. 'Sure sure' She said. 'Fucking finally' Johnny said as he emerged from his room. 'What?' I asked. 'Justin finally responded after 4 days' He said. I quickly turned on my screen, but saw nothing.

'Yeah what happened to him?' Beth asked. 'He went to his ski lodge with his grandparents Thursday morning, apparently they surprised him. No reception up there' He said and we both nodded. 'He said he hopes you didn't cry too much without him Chan' Johnny said, making Beth laugh. 'Are you serious?' I asked. 'That's what it says' He said. 'Not taken huh?' She asked me before we continued towards the kitchen. 'There they are' Mom said.

'Good morning' I said as we sat at the table. 'You ready for your first day at Calabasas Chan?' My dad asked. 'I guess' I said. 'Just be yourself and I know you'll be fine' He said, earning a slight nod from me. Yeah, a lot easier said than done.

I rolled my windows up as I pulled into an open spot. I took one last deep breath before I opened the door and stepped out of my car. It took me a few seconds to obtain some confidence, but I made my way into the school once I did. I had to stop at the main office to get all of my information, finding Beth and Andy to be waiting for me once I came out.

'Hey girl' Andy said. 'Hey' I smiled. 'Thanks for waiting' I said. 'No prob' She said as she wrapped her lips around her iced caramel macchiato. 'Where's your locker?' Beth asked. I handed her the paper the lady gave me, and she sighed. 'You're back here' She said. Andy and Beth led me down two really confusing hallways before we found it. I had math, english, and history before lunch so I left what I didn't need inside.

'Have you seen Justin?' Andy asked me. 'No, why?' I asked. She went onto Snapchat, and pressed Cory's name. He was in Justin's car, and had taken a picture of two Starbucks drinks sitting in cup holders. Justin was driving, and Cory had circled the cup that had my name on it. The caption said 'whipped'. 'Still not taken?' Beth asked as I blushed. 'Oh' I mumbled. 'You're so cute' Andy said. 'I imagine Cat thinks it's for her' Beth said and I instantly felt a knot build within my chest.

'That girl is a hot mess right now, I don't know what to do' Andy said. I felt my phone buzz, making me pull it out of my pocket. Justin Bieber (2). I bit my lip before I opened the messages.
Are you here? I read. Come out to my car, just ask Beth where. 'Where does Justin park?' I asked them. 'Oh, go right out these doors, and make a left, you'll see his car like immediately' Andy said.

'Alright' I said. 'No car sex' She yelled as I left through the doors. Not like I had any type of sex anyway. Following Andy's directions, I made a left, and saw Justin getting something from his trunk. 'What's a girl gotta do to get a call?' I asked as I approached him from behind. He turned around, with smirk. 'I'm sorry about that, no reception at my grandparents lodge' He said. 'It's fine, I'm kidding' I said as his eyes quickly scanned my body. 'You look nice' He said and I smiled. 'Thank you' I said.
