A few minutes after I found myself in the little garden behind the venue building, I felt the cool wind hit my face and inhale its sweet perfume. My eyes wandered to the flowerbeds with flowers and plants decorating them, thinking how they must have worked hard to grow so beautiful. I stopped near one of them to look. I picked up a tiny pink rose and placed it behind my ear. I loved these kinds of things, I liked being surrounded by color and beauty, and these plants seemed so pure, so delicate.
A small voice interrupted my thoughts and made me jump a little. I turned around to see who it was but when my eyes fell on that pair of dark brown eyes, I froze.
She's so beautiful... So pretty... I thought as my eyes scanned every part of her body. Her black hair looked soft and flowing like silk. Her lips were pink, shiny, and inviting. They looked even softer if possible. She looked perfect. Perfectly beautiful. She was dressed in a light blue dress that complemented her perfectly.
This woman looks exactly like a princess from the fairytales my aunt used to tell me when I was little. And then she spoke. She began speaking and I couldn't tear my gaze away from her.
- "I seem to notice that you like flowers?"
She gently smiled at me. I nodded, still unable to speak. She continued,
- "If you ever want to learn how to water them and tend to their needs, come find me, I will gladly teach you."
I managed to regain the ability to function again and smiled at her, then she continued once again,
- "I work as a florist here. I and a few of my colleagues made these flowerbeds a few months before the wedding party, the bride is a big fan of my work."
I finally had the courage to answer,
- "Your works are mesmerizing, I really can see that everything was made with love."
She blushed and replied with a shy smile on her face,
- "Ah, thank you, that means a lot to me."
I just gazed at her with a gentle smile. I don't know why it felt like I was being pulled toward her but something told me I needed to keep talking to her.
- "So... Uhm... I'm Grace. I don't really know anyone here, just came here with my cousin Vincent, maybe you know him...."
She smiled warmly at me.
- "Nice to meet you, Grace. Your name is really beautiful."
That compliment did things to my heart and I couldn't control myself from grinning brightly. She gave me another smile before continuing.
- "My name is Amari."
She extended her hand to me and I happily accepted it.
She seemed very nice and friendly, I didn't understand why I couldn't stop staring at her and she wasn't bothered by it either. The moment we let go of each other, Vincent approached us.
- "Grace, I've been looking all over for you! I'm so glad I finally found you!"
He looked very happy and a bit tipsy.
He hugged me tightly and smiled down at me. Amari smiled at Vincent before introducing herself.
- "I'm glad to see Grace talking to someone that is not me, you know, she's such a nerd, just being in her stupid garden growing her stupid vegetables and then me who has to do all the dirty work for her!"
Vincent started laughing and I poked him with my elbow. Amari laughed and shook her head in disbelief,
- "Oh, poor thing."
I was trying to hold back my laughter and failed miserably, making Amari laugh even harder.
- "So, you have your own garden?"
She asked me excitedly and I nodded in reply.
-"How lovely!"
She exclaimed and continued,
- "Well, it was nice meeting you, Vincent. Grace, I hope to see your garden sometime!"
With that, Amari said goodbye to us. I watched her as she left and smiled lightly.
- "Well that was certainly something, wasn't it? Do you know her? What's her name?"
Vins said playfully while looking at me. I rolled my eyes at him.
- "No, I just met her and apparently her name is Amari. By the way, Vincent, if you and I are both tipsy, how we can get back home, huh?"
I chuckled and then continued,
- "Let's go get a taxi, you drunk ass."
Vincent grinned at me.
- "Ok, my dear Grace."
He winked at me and led me out of the garden and towards the exit.
As Vincent was saying goodbye to everyone, I was trying to find Amari with my eyes to see her once again, but unfortunately to me, I couldn't find her anymore, she must have gotten out of here. That is unfortunate.
When Vincent and I got outside the venue, I saw the taxi waiting patiently around the corner, waiting for us to step inside. We hurried towards it and hopped inside. I tried opening the window and letting some air into the car but it wouldn't budge. I sighed defeatedly and leaned against the seat. I was feeling a bit tired so I didn't really care about the car ride. I closed my eyes while Vincent was telling me about everything that happened inside the venue, mostly his drunken escapades. I just focused on listening to him and smiling. It's a good thing that I already drank my share of alcohol because right now, my headache wasn't as bad. I just wished that the car ride would end soon.
We arrived at our destination after what felt like forever. When I opened my eyes, Vincent was already getting out of the car and waiting for me to follow him. I reluctantly opened the door and stepped out.
- "Sometimes it's so upsetting that I live far from the road and taxi drivers refuse to stop near my hut... But at the same time, that's why I like it so much!"
I smiled at him and then we began walking to my home.
It wasn't that far away so we took some time walking there. While Vincent was busy telling me funny stories about his adventures as he walked, I caught myself thinking about Amari. The way she looked so innocent yet strong, the way she held herself so gracefully, her soft and warm smile, her perfect features, her deep brown eyes. I felt a sudden longing to see her again, maybe to talk to her some more or to hear her laugh again. Maybe even hug her for a bit. My hands suddenly became sweaty and my heart beat faster than normal.
When we reached my hut, I stopped walking abruptly and turned to face Vincent.
- "Are you planning on staying here tonight?"
Vincent chuckled and nodded.
- "Yeah, that would be great. Would you allow me?"
I smiled and answered with a nod as well.
- "Of course."
Without saying anything else, I went inside and went straight into my room to change clothes. After taking off my dress and bra, I put on some leggings and an oversized t-shirt. Once I finished changing, I grabbed a blanket from the closet and came into the living room.
After seeing how comfortable Vincent looked lying on my living room couch, I smiled and placed the blanket over him. He thanked me as he closed his eyes.
I took a quick shower before going back to my room. I threw myself onto the bed, feeling exhausted. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
