When I started to gain consciousness again I noticed that it was already light outside and that I'm laying on my bed covered with a blanket, but I didn't recall falling asleep.
Did pass out? But how did I end up in the bedroom? I quickly stood up from the bed and looked around the room trying to collect memories from the last night to understand what exactly could have happened. But it felt like there was a hole in my memory.
All the pieces that I could recollect together were blurry and scattered, and I didn't know what to make out of them. All I can remember is that I was sitting on my couch, staring at my phone waiting for a response, and then feeling anxiety taking over my whole body because I hadn't heard anything from Amari.
After a little while of trying to figure out my thoughts, I decided that I need to forget about it and put those worries aside for now. I felt a bit stiff in my body so I headed to the bathroom to take a shower to bring me back to my senses.
After I finished showering, I wrapped myself in a towel and started to feel extremely hungry as I heard my stomach desperately growling in an attempt to remind me that I haven't eaten anything since yesterday. I quickly left the bathroom to grab something to eat.
As soon as I opened the door to the kitchen I saw Vincent standing over the stove preparing some food. I didn't expect him here so at first, I screamed in surprise, causing him to jump in fright.
- "Jesus Christ, Grace, you scared the crap outta me!"
I flinched when he suddenly shouted but I quickly calmed down.
- "What are you doing here? Why do you think it's okay to come here without saying anything to me first? What if I came here naked? Are you insane?"
I was getting quite angry with him for barging into my house like that. He knew he couldn't just walk in whenever he wanted and then expect me to welcome him in. But Vincent didn't seem bothered by my anger.
- "Girl, chill! Calm your tits, will ya? You called me yesterday being all weird and I got worried so I came here and found you passed out on the floor in the living room. I tried to wake you up and almost called the ambulance because you didn't respond. I thought you were dead until you suddenly started mumbling something incoherently. And when I tried waking you up again, you wouldn't listen. So I thought that you just fell asleep in exhaustion or something."
Vincent explained to me with a slightly annoyed expression as he turned off the stove and sat himself down on one of the chairs near the counter. He seemed pretty calm while explaining everything which helped ease my tension. But he still had to know why I was sleeping on the floor like that.
I sat down in front of him and asked him curiously.
- "What time is it? How long have I been asleep?"
Vincent looked away from me and shrugged. He seemed like he was thinking about something for a few seconds before answering me.
- "It's almost nine o'clock in the morning, you have been asleep the whole night. Now tell me, what happened yesterday that made you so tired that you literally passed out on the floor? Was it the marketplace?"
I let out a deep sigh.
I guess it would be better to get this over with. And maybe talking to Vincent will help. After taking a deep breath, I told him what happened.
- "Amari said that she will come to visit me and I was waiting for her but there was no sign of her. I was expecting her by evening but as the hours passed without any message or call from her, I texted her a few times to ask if she was still coming. I waited and waited for her, but she never arrived. I started getting anxious and I was way too scared and shy to call her so I just stared at my phone hoping that she'd message me back but nothing happened and I think I probably had a panic attack and lost my consciousness or something. But somehow, I felt like I was having those emotions not just because I was worried for her but because I felt like this have happened to me before..."
