"Oh, I'm still holding on to everything that's dead and gone
I don't wanna say goodbye 'cause this one means forever
Now you're in the stars and six feet's never felt so far
Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers
Oh, it hurts so hard for a million different reasons
You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces"

Dean

The sun was shining through the bedroom window, the curtain open and revealing the backyard with the baby pool and tricycle in the corner, a small patch of still-growing flowers on the other side.

But the view faded in comparison to the one in front of Dean's eyes, inside the bedroom. Elijah, just woken up by their two-year old litte girl, holding her close with her head resting on his chest, his eyes still closed with his head laid back against the headboard. The sun's rays fell just the right way on him, making his blond hair glint. The small, peaceful smile on his face made Dean smile too.

But most of all, Dean's heart skipped at the ring on his finger, in clear view with the light reflecting off it.

"You're staring," Elijah said, his eyes still closed and his voice deep like it usually was in the morning.

His words made the girl turn her head towards him, her gray eyes sparking with excitement.

"Dada!" she exclaimed, jumping off the bed and running to Dean, who picked her up in his arms with a small chuckle.

"Morning, sleepy heads," Dean said to both of them as Elijah also got out of bed with a stretch, a small yawn escaping his lips.

"'Morning," Elijah mumbled, coming over to give Dean a small kiss on his cheek and ruffling their daughter's hair.

Elijah went to take a shower, while the pair headed down to the kitchen for breakfast.

"Happy birthday, Emmie," he said, kissing her forehead as theu headed downstairs.

"Cake?" Emilia asked, looking at him with wide, puppy-like eyes.

Dean chuckled as they reached the kitchen and he fastened her in her highchair, for once the complaining from the tiny human being minimum.

"Yeah, we'll have cake today. But in the evening, when everyone else comes over," he said, and she nodded in satisfaction.

"And presents?" she asked.

"Hmmm," Dean said teasingly. "Presents?"

"Yes, presents! Papa promised," she pouted, and Dean held in his laughter at how similar her expressions were to Elijah, looking adorable with her slight baby-lisp that had her pronouncing her R's as W's.

Just then, Elijah came down, his hair damp from the shower.

Before he had even fully entered the kitchen, Emilia turned to him.

"Dada said no presents!" she exclaimed, turning her pout to him.

Elijah looked between the two with an amused glance, before kissing the top of Emilia's head with a chuckle.

"Of course you'll get presents, baby."

Finally satisfied, the little girl turned her attention to her toys in front of her, and Elijah headed to Dean.

"And you wonder why I'm the favorite parent," Elijah teased.

Dean pulled his fiancé in for a quick kiss, which Elijah returned.

"I've got tickets for the Kids Amusement Park and the aquarium after breakfast," Dean said, making Elijah smile.

"Look at you, such a good father," he said, his voice was amused but sincere.
