dinner was sort of awkward at first. juwon told siwoo about yeonjun staying over at soobin's, and she told us how sehun went to bed early tonight. i think he's probably humiliated after he caused yeonjun to run off like that when he wasn't even supposed to be talking to him in the first place. he got caught, we overheard everything. yesterday, of you asked me what kind of man sehun was, i'd tell you that he's super friendly and approachable. now? not i just think that he's a terrible father who's careless and shameful. i don't know what he's going to do next time he sees me, knowing that heard everything he said about me - that i'mjust here to sort out his son basically. yeonjun never even wanted me here. sehun must be feeling pretty stupid after today.
but, as the meal went on, it got less awkward. without sehun and yeonjun causing this horrible tension in the room, it's quite easy for siwoo, juwon, jihye and i to hold a long conversation. we laughed about dumb stuff and chatted the whole evening as if the argument between yeonjun and his dad never even happened.
siwoo said that she'd take us to central park tomorrow - just us lot sat at the table, and jae the dog, of course. so that's quite exciting. a bit of outdoorsy time to just relax and get out.
the next morning, get up and ready, dressed in a black skirt with a white sweater with some black design on it. we jump in the car, heading into the busy streets of the city. the route we go drives us straight through Times Square where the most huge billboards change and flash about. there are tons of people dressed in all manor of costumes for some street entertainment and the amount of people wondering around is honestly mind blowing. eventually siwoo parks the car and we walk to central park.
we find a little area of open grass with the trees behind us so we can retreat to the shade if the sun gets a bit much for us. sat on picnic blankets while munching on grapes and strawberries, we all just chill, doing our own thing. siwoo is reading her book. juwon has got his headphones in as he lies back across the blanket, while i teach jihye how to make daisy chains. she's been making crowns and hanging chains from her arms around her neck, she's even made me a little daisy bracelet.
"can i make them with dandelions?" she asks, looking across to the yellow flowers.
"oh, well you could, but you shouldn't really pick dandelions." i say to her.
"why?"
"well, the bees really like dandelions, so it's nice to let them grow." i say.
"but bees sting you."
"they only sting you if they feel threatened." i say to her. "we actually need bees." i explain.
"why?" she asks.
"well because they pollinate plants, they help them to grow, keeping the circle of life going." i say.
"like in the lion king." she says.
"yeah, just like the lion king." i laugh.
"but how do they help people?" she asks.
"well, they help plants grow, don't they?" i say, and she nods. "like crops and food we eat. and plants produce oxygen which we need to breathe." i say.
"ohh." she says.
"god, i can just keep you to teach my kids so i don't have to send them to school." siwoo laughs, lowering her book.
i laugh in response, until we're all distracted when a ball come rolling over onto our punnet of grapes.
"sorry!" says a guys voice from across the field, who's with a few of his friends.
"juwon, kick it back." siwoo says, knowing he's definitely going to give a good kick in the right direction.
so juwon stands, rolls the ball onto the grass with the sole of his foot, takes a few steps back in preparation before kicking it across the field with perfect aim.
