When Bad left the room, I sat up from the bed, immediately standing again. I could care less about the fact that he told me to stay sitting. Maybe I would be able to escape now because they expected me to be in bed.
I grabbed my bag from the floor and after a slight hesitation, grabbed a muffin too, chewing on the fluffy pastry as I left the room quietly, no pain in my ankle at all. I crept down the stairs and then past the empty living room, making it out the door in record time. That didn't mean I didn't have to be careful.
I left the yard quietly, making it all the way to the trees before I heard a noise. Scared because I knew I wasn't the one to make it, I hid behind a group of trees just as Tommy and his friend came running past, Tommy holding something in his hand that his friend was trying to grab.
"Give that back Tommy!" They yelled, leaping at Tommy to grab what looked like a flower crown in Tommy's hand.
"Never Tubs!" Tommy laughed, holding it up higher, smiling as they jumped again, higher this time.
Suddenly, the friend seemed to see something in the distance and a mischievous smile appeared on their face.
"You can either give it back, or I'll get those bees to attack you!" They said, and Tommy paled, giving the crown back to the person before running.
They smiled happily as they fixed the flower crown on their head, leaning down and offering their finger to the bee that I could see had flown up to them.
Suddenly their smile dropped and they turned right towards the tree bunch where I was hiding, standing up from the ground and walking towards me. I looked around quickly, but realised there was nowhere I could go to escape, so I sat down, opening up my backpack and pulling out my phone, pretending I had been there the whole time. He walked around the corner and noticed me, his smile returning.
"oh! Are you Ranboo?" He asked, the bee flying from his hand.
I looked up from my phone, looking into his bright blue eyes "Yeah. And you are?"
"I'm Tubbo. It's nice to meet you" He crouched down and extended his hand, and I hesitantly took it, let him shake our hands aggressively for a bit before I pulled away.
But he didn't take that as a sign to leave, and he flopped down on the ground next to me, leaning against the trees and looking, his eyes sparkling when he saw a bird that had made a nest up there.
"Look how cute that bird is!" He said excitedly, pointing up at the bluebird who was tucking some sticks into a nest.
"Looks like a bird" I mutter, going back to my phone, playing whatever game I had accidentally opened and started.
Tubbo just sighed and started to chirp, opening his hand out and watching as the bird flew down from the tree and landed on his hand, nuzzling against his hand as it chirped back.
"Aww, don't worry, you'll find someone soon" Tubbo spoke to the bird and I blanked, confused about what was happening.
Tubbo must have noticed my expression and he laughed, letting the bird fly up. "It's my power" He said, chirping once more and getting one in response "I can talk to animals. They like me"
He laughed as a squirrel fell from the tree, landing on his lap and nuzzling into his neck, making a noise that sounded like purring.
Suddenly, I didn't see Tubbo. I saw him, smiling at me with a flower crown in their hair, excited as it was the first they made. It was their first and last time outside. They were so happy that day. They spent the next few days telling me about it at every chance they had.
They hate me now. They wished me dead.
I heard a voice speak and suddenly Tubbo was there again, talking to the squirrel in his hand.
He reminded me too much of him. I had to leave.
I stood from the ground and took my backpack with me, walking back towards the house without saying anything. Tubbo didn't follow me, but I could feel his eyes on me, most likely confused about why I was walking away.
I walked inside, nodding to Phil from where he sat on the couch, the other adults with him watching TV.
"YOU MUFFIN! Why are you up?" Bad yelled and fell off the couch before getting up and racing towards me, trying to stop me from walking only to have me pull away and continue walking, my ankle not even hurting.
"I'm fine. It doesn't hurt" I said, walking farther into the living room, heading towards the stairs.
They let me, all of their attention suddenly on the TV.
"Another group foster home found burned to the ground. From what we have figured out, we think it was the same group as the other ones. We aren't sure who these people are and who they are searching for, but our hearts are with the person. Let's hope they stay safe and escape these villainous people" I turned around to look at the TV, and felt my heart stop when I saw what it was showing.
On the TV, it showed a burning building, nothing left of it other than ashes and a message written out in what looked like blood on the remaining wall.
We will find you
If the adults had turned around, they would have seen me more pale than normal, my eyes wide as I processed the information that I had been given. I had to go. I had to leave. I needed to get out of here.
But they would be able to catch me. I couldn't escape.
I took a shaky breath and climbed up the stairs to the room where I was staying, throwing my backpack in the corner and sitting on my bed, staring at the wall like it hid the secrets of the world.
They were coming. They were going to find me and they were going to take me. They might take the others. They might kill the others.
I needed to leave. But they would catch me. I wasn't safe. They weren't safe.
What was I going to do?
