Where To Go...

Stepping out of the taxi, I breathed the scent of fresh air and felt oddly homesick. But, instead of dwelling on it, I hauled the suitcase out onto the pavement and paid the driver.

Standing on the pavement, he whizzed away leaving the street in deadly silence. Gulping, I looked up, the shadows loomed over everything, those were the shadows of the estate flats, the place where I was headed next. So, waiting no longer, I shifted forward and stepped carefully toward them,

My hand gripped firmly around the handle to lug the heavy case, but my thoughts were so heavily set on where I was going that it didn’t bother me. However, nearing the building unsettled my nerves and so on the bridge over one of the roads, I stopped to catch my breath and calm myself,

The bridge looked over the houses and streets down below, I felt strangely powerful looking down at them,

Turning my head to the side, I looked up at the flats. The walls were an off colour that reminded me of a muddy swamp, on the sides were small dotted windows, familiarising me with a prison,

Despite my head yelling at me not to, I pulled my feet into a fast walk deeper into the estate. I climbed the steps up, but stopped dead just behind one corner as I heard deep male voices, and one powerful female,

Inhaling a lungful of needed air to boost my confidence, I turned to the corner in strides, the group consisted of four males, one looking over the balcony so that I couldn’t see his face, the female instantly looked toward me,

Her dark eyes seemed to be full of hatred, she wore skinny jeans over her skinny legs and a black leather looking jacket which was zipped up all the way to the top. Her skin was dark and black hair pulled back into a pony tail,

The boys all looked roughly the same, all tall, with a caramel skin tone, dark beady eyes and short brown hair. They all wore trainers, baggy jeans and t-shirts despite the cold weather,

One of the boys caught my eye and I felt uneasy at the smirk on his face, “Now what’s a pretty little thing like you, doing on this side of town?” I didn’t reply, “It’s rude to ignore people you know,”

The girl stepped in front of me, “What do you want?” She sneered,

“I’m looking for someone,” I replied trying to sound as confident as I could, but not managing it too well,

“And who would that be?” She looked down at me intimidatingly,

“You wouldn’t know him,” I told her,

“Bobbie?” The boy looking over the balcony was now facing me, as soon as my eyes fell on his face, I smiled as did he, “Shit what the hell are you doing here?” His voice wasn’t angry, more, shocked, he instantly came over to me and pulled me into a slightly uncomfortable hug,

I looked up at him, “Hey Derry,” I pulled my lips together,

“Why….?” He shook his head, “What are you doing here?”

Derry’s blue eyes were comforting, he, like the others wore only baggy jeans and a white t-shirt, stained of course, on his feet were a pair of scuzzy trainers,

“Um, guys this is Bobbie, Bobbie meet the guys,” I nodded and pulled them a weak uncaring smile, I let go of suitcase and leaned back against the railings, Derry stood next to me,

“What the hell are you doing here?” He asked, “I thought you left?”

Derry lives on the estate, he’s part of the gang that I got to know when I got into trouble and sucked into a different world, one of drugs and violence. Derry, unlike the others took it upon himself to look out for me and after a while, the two of is grew closer. However not in a romantic way, instead, he was like a brotherly figure toward me. That was until, I got pregnant, I immediately left without a word to him, or anyone else for that matter,
