Today, just like every other day, the mall was busy, bustling with people with their friends and family and though Kunimi didn't like how crowded it was, he did appreciate Kindaichi allowing him to hold onto him if needed.Kindaichi glanced at Kunimi happily eating his ice cream and looking at all the stores, instinctively smiling and squeezing Kunimi's hand tenderly.
They don't usually leave the house to go shopping, especially at the mall. But today, a small mall date didn't seem that bad. They both hadn't gone mall shopping in a while so it wouldn't hurt to go.They were both walking hand in hand with Kindaichi carrying all the bags that Kunimi mostly bought things with, though they were making his arm ache, he did insist. And Kunimi eating his ice cream made him decide that he'll continue carrying his bags for him.
They walked a few more steps until Kunimi stopped, Kindaichi looked back at him as he saw Kunimi stare at a specific store in interest. He sighed internally as he's probably going to carry more bags once Kunimi goes inside.
Kunimi turned to Kindaichi, smiling, knowing that he wanted to go inside the store. Kindaichi didn't match his enthusiasm, however. His eyes could visibly tell that it was getting annoying carrying all of their- or all of Kunimi's bags.
When he noticed his expression, Kunimi frowned, his eyes identical to a puppy that wanted food, he held onto his shirt, "Please?"
Kindaichi almost gave in, but knowing Kunimi, he rolled his eyes trying to pry his hand off his shirt, "Let go."
"Not unless we go."
His stubborn behaviour was ticking him off, sighing he asked "What more do you wanna get anyway? You're going to make me carry the bags anyway. Show mercy on my arms Akira."
"Just one more store! Please, we'll go home right after, I'll even carry some of the bags if you let me go!"
Kindaichi didn't hesitate to give Kunimi ⅓ of the bags, dropping half of them to him, until then he could feel Kunimi looking at him waiting for his call to go.
A nod of approval came from Kindaichi and he could feel his heart skip a beat when Kunimi smiled gleefully, plopping all the bags on the floor that he had just given him approximately 5 seconds ago, along with almost dropping his ice cream and going in to hug him tightly.
"Thank you." A sweet, appreciative kiss pressed on his cheek, "I love you, Yuutarou, I don't know anyone else in the world that can deal with me the way you do."
Kindaichi practically melted in his arms, he would've hugged him forever and ever if it weren't for them being in public. When they pulled back Kindaichi moved a strand of hair from Kunimi's face. "Don't take too long, okay? I'm gonna wait in the car."
Kunimi nodded, both sharing a quick kiss of dismissal until they parted ways.

Kindaichi nearly fell asleep while waiting for Kunimi to come back, practically falling out of his seat when he felt the car's backseat being opened and bags being put in. He rubbed his eyes, sighing exasperatedly.
"How long did you take Akira?"
"Hm. Not too long, sorry for breaking your nap baby."
The pet name made him completely forget why he was irritated in the first place. He waited for Kunimi to sit in the passenger seat, ready to depart from their long day of mall adventures and walking.
They were ready to leave when Kunimi clicked on his seat belt and off they went home.
As Kindaichi was driving, he noticed one of the bags on Kunimi's lap, and if he wasn't mistaken, it seemed like it was the last store Kunimi had gone to before they left.
"What did you get?" Kunimi looked confused for a brief second, most likely to which specific thing he was talking about. It was until Kindaichi motioned to bag on Kunimi's lap.
Kunimi giggled, opening up the bag to see? Stuffed animals?
Kindaichi's eyes became dull as he sighed, "Really Akira? Stuffed animals."
"I know, I know. But listen, I bought these for the both of us."
This caught Kindaichi's attention as he found the perfect opportunity to stop at a red light and look at Kunimi.
"I bought these so whenever we're not together, we would still have a piece of each other through the stuffies. We can switch stuffies every time we're away so it could help if we're missing each other— look I'm the cat and you're the elephant!"
Suddenly Kindaichi felt guilty about all the things he thought. He felt angry at himself for possibly thinking that Kunimi was wasting money when he wanted to give something to both of them, and it couldn't have turned out any cuter than a pair of stuffed animals that does look childish, but it was from the heart and he didn't care what others say because his and Kunimi relationship was perfect to him and he wouldn't have traded it for the world.
His heart ached when he saw Kunimi's smile fade and replaced with disappointment and hurt filled in his eyes, if it weren't for them being on the road he would've smothered Kunimi with 'thank yous' and kisses, telling him that he is grateful that he cares about his feelings and efforts knowing that it took a while for Kunimi to open up.
"Sorry...I'll return them and give your money back." His voice, it was meek, shallow, completely broken. That was the turning point, he quickly glanced to see Kunimi with the same expression putting the stuffed animals back in the bag. It was getting too much to bear. He had to act fast.
"No! No, don't." Kunimi looked surprised, the glint of hope in his eyes now making Kindaichi feel less guilty, and as if luck was on his side, a red light stopped at the most perfect time. He took a deep breath in, relieved that he can now explain himself and not hurt Kunimi's feelings.
"I don't want my money back, you bought it for the both of us and this is probably the sweetest gift anyone has given me. I'll cherish it, Akira, so don't think about even returning it. And you're right, it will help when we're away from each other."
A fire ignited in his heart when he saw how Kunimi lit up when his entire expression changed the moment he said those words, he would've done anything to avoid ever making him sad or hurt.
Kindaichi smiled, putting his warm hand on Kunimi's leg as he turned to peer at him, his gaze almost unusual.
"Once we get home, I'll show you how much I loved our stuffies."
Kunimi's breath hitched, "Yuu- no, not today." Quickly pushing his hand away from his leg.
Kindaichi hummed, a bit bummed out "Hm, any other way you would believe me?"
Kunimi smiled, "A few hugs and cuddles would be nice, maybe a bit of kisses."
"Say no more." With that, he felt Kindaichi's hand on his leg again, but this time he didn't push away.
-
And on the top of their dresser at home, laid two stuffed animals, one a cat, and one an elephant.
