David rose his gaze to see the surprised eyes of Cody, locating him almost instantly. Once they were all gone, Anna and him were on the front two seats, staring at the floor, knowing, or at least assuming, they were going to be scolded. "You might be wondering why didn't I let you go" David started, walking around the room, Anna was too intimidated to talk and Cody was too scared.

"Yes sir." They responded.

"Well... I just wanted to let you know that... I'm on your side." Confusion and a curious particular feeling of fear swirled on them.

"Wha— What?" Anna was the first to speak.

"Nickolas has worked with me for over ten years, he knows I met my wife on the CIA and that he met his on a mission. And Annie..." The Sargent kneel in front of her, looking straight in her eyes. "I want you to understand that your mother's death does not define you, neither it gives Nick and Ellie the right to boss you around."

"How'd you— Did you met my mother?" The desperate wish to know in Anna made her eyes itch with the water that fooled her sight.

"I did... Brave woman, she did everything she could to protect you, she wasn't what you met young lady, she was always a protector of the truth and justice, she was fearless, strong and loved you like no one else in this world."

"Then why did she—" The broken voice of Anna made Cody shiver, he could hear the ice running down her throat and her words fighting to get out.

"I don't know... Nobody knew why, but when we found out we all went to show support. Then your father became stronger, he found that he could go on, he's better because of what happened."

Anna couldn't hear anything more, she dashed out of the room and trying to find support on the wall she leaned, covering her mouth she sobbed with one hand, tears came out. She was crying desperately, her heart being broken, torn and ripped over and over again as she remembered her father, the girl was crying heavily and almost screaming. Her legs couldn't support her weight and the girl fell on her knees to continue crying, unloading every gram of weight she had carried for years.

Cody wanted to go out, but something from the remorse for what she had done held him hostage to his chair. "What happened to her mother? Why does she get so emotional when people talk about it?" He finally spoke, looking at the man in front of him.

"She hung herself." The Sargent stopped for a moment, Cody could see the pain through the ice-like face of his. "One afternoon when Anna was coming back from buying something she asked for, she climbed on a chair, tied a rope to the ceiling and killed herself."

"Bu— Why?"

"Nobody knows... She left a note saying to her that she loved her deeply and that she was sorry for doing it."

"When was that?" He questioned almost in a whisper, looking behind his shoulder, trying to fix his eyes on her.

"Two years ago." The man sighted, looking to the ground. "I was mistaken. I thought I could make it better by showing my support, but now I see... That you don't love her half as much as she loves you."

The Sargent put his hat on, ended putting his stuff away, gave Cody a nod and walked out. Leaving him in the most gripping and painful state of shock in which he had been in his entire life. He had spoken of her as if she were a traitor to the trust of the CIA, MI6 and him, as if she had done things wrong on purpose. Now it turns out that the same year she had lost her mother someone apparently very close to her had threatened to blame her for another suicide if she didn't do as she was told.

Nick was right about him, Ronald was right about him, everyone who wanted to make him stay away from Anna was right, they were only trying to protect her and he had broken her boundaries to make himself happy. He felt so selfish, exactly like a monster, the feeling of tearing others apart was the worse he had ever had.
