I wait, bored, for the end of redstone class, having finished the task of copying down all the uses of repeaters. I think Scar's asleep next to me, page blank from what I can see. Suddenly, the bell goes, and he looks up, startled and most definitely just asleep.

'Pack up and go.' The teacher orders. 'But before you do, the school is having a redstone competition. The most impressive redstone wins. You can go in pairs, or on your own. The deadline is in a few weeks time.'

As dull as he makes it sound, I perk up at the idea... I could definitely compete, and maybe even win... I think about it as I pack up, quickly doing so. Scar takes a bit longer, and I wait for him. At last we're both ready, leaving the classroom.

'Should we go up to our secret base?' I offer. Brightening instantly, Scar nods back.

'I'll tell Grian where I'm going, so he doesn't worry. Meet me over there.'

'Alright!'

I head off, while Scar runs over to explain to Grian. He joins me again mid-journey, and we reach my room, entering and climbing into the secret base.

'Well, that was the most boring lesson yet...'

'Even worse than the one last week on signal strength?'

'Sorry, second most boring lesson ever... I barely lasted 10 minutes of that.'

'To be honest there was a meeting the night before.'

'The one where...?'

'Yeah. The one where Doc was planning how to find and murder Impulse, and Tango almost killed him back.' Not wanting to think about it any more, I ask, 'Should I grab some food so we can eat lunch up here?'

'Oh, yeah. That would be great!'

'Anything you dislike?'

'I'll try anything!'

Though the prankster side of my mind tells me to take Scar's response too literally, I grab stuff I'm sure we'll both like. Scott's there, and smiles at me. There's a brief conversation between us about lessons, before I disappear back to the secret base again.

'Food!' I smile, letting Scar take it before I climb up into the base again.

'Wow! Looks great!'

'Thanks, man.'

Taking back a plate of sandwiches and cake, I make myself comfortable. Scar's happily sitting crosslegged opposite me, and I just remember to cover the entrance before starting to eat.

'Building class this afternoon! Hopefully we're still working on making trees...'

'You're really good at it.' I reply. 'I've seen some of the stuff you've made... really look like trees.'

'Well, you'd expect them to look like trees!' Laughs back Scar.

'Well- yes, but... they're good trees.'

'They're good trees... damned by faint praise, Cub.'

'They're the best, most treeish, spectacular trees in the entire tree world.' I correct, to even more laughter.

'That's more like it...' Scar takes another bite of sandwich.

'You heard about the redstone competition?'

'Yeah? I'm not going to compete if that's what you're thinking...'

'I was wondering if you wanted to team up with me. Make something cool, I can teach you a bit of redstone, we can hang out with each other...'

'Alright! I might make everything even worse...'

'Don't worry, man.' We continue eating, and the food disappears quickly. There's still a while until the next lesson, and me and Scar just continue talking.

'Did I ever tell you that I'm a PvP champion?' He ask. I laugh back.

'What? You?'

'Yes, me. Jeez Louize, Cub, I thought you believed in me!'

'How are... you... a PvP champion?'

'I challenged Dream to a PvP fight the other day and won.'

'What?'

'Yep. I found the weird guy in the white mask that everyone's talking about and challenged him to a PvP fight.' My instincts are telling me otherwise until he continues. 'Go and ask that Tommy person, he'll tell you how we beat him fair and square.'

'So you and Tommy fought Dream together?'

'Not really... I did most of the work. Tommy provided moral support.'

'Was it actually the other way around?' I cross my arms, entertained.

'What? No...'

'So you got Tommy to fight Dream for you?'

No response. I take it as a yes, laughing.

'You don't beat Dream by not actually beating him. Now you need to properly do it. 1v1, same weapons and armour, later today, with a fair judge.'

'Fine! I'm definitely a better PvPer than him though.'

'Sure thing, buddy...'

'You don't believe me?!'

'Ehhh... not... really?' I grimace back. Scar sighs.

'Grian believes in me.'

'Well, if you think you're good at PvP, then I challenge you to a fight.' My smirk is rivalled by a look of surprise

'What? Now?'

'Yeah, now. No weapons, just bare fists and pure chaos.'

'Well, if you really want me to win...' He stands up, walking outside the den into the rest of the secret between floors area. I follow, standing a few meters away.

'Tell me when.'

'...now!'

We fight. And as much as Scar tries, it's almost too easy to defeat him instantly. But I fight badly on purpose, letting him hit me back, punching and laughing. I kick and punch back so as to not cause suspicion... eventually, he has me pinned against the edge of the base.

'See? I told you I was a good PvPer!' He grins, and I have to smile back at his enthusiasm, getting to my feet, sore.

'GG, Scar. GG.'

I shove him back jokingly, but he trips, hitting the floor hard.

And going right through.

The panels break, and I hear a thud, followed by a mix between a yell, quickly hidden swear word, and general Scottishness from Scott below. I dare to approach, seeing my friend sprawled below, wide eyed staring up at me.

'WHY?!' Finally managing to say actual words, Scott yells. I back away, running back to the actual exit, down, and into Scott and Jimmy's room. The latter's on his bed, as far away from the damage as he can be. An impressive Scar-shaped hole gapes out from the ceiling. Scott's jumped up on his own bed, an unrecognisable negative expression on his face.

'Hey... Scott...' Scar sits up, clearly in pain. I try to find an explanation as Scott looks between us.

'How did you end up in there?!' Jimmy asks.

'I... tripped.' Is Scar's reply.

'You tripped.'

'Yep. Cub can confirm.'

'I don't know if I can...'

Crossing his arms, Scott sighs,

'Are you hurt?'

'Oh, no, I'm fine...' Replies Scar, voice dripping with sarcasm. 'Just... hmm...' No one speaks for a moment. I step further into the room. 'Actually, I might've broken my leg...'
