"Where the hell are they?"

Joyce groaned in annoyance, calling to her older son. "Jonathan!" The boy peeked out from the kitchen, smiling at the sleepy y/n stumbling into the room. "Check the couch!" He called back to his mother, Joyce making a noise of surprise.

"Got them!"

She entered the room, placing a kiss on y/n's forehead as she passed by. "Okay I will see you guys tonight- where's Will?" Jonathan turned, pouring more batter onto the stove. "I didn't get him up yet."

Joyce frowned, y/n watching the mother and son. "I wake him up." She smiled, Joyce nodding gratefully. Although the girl's speech had been improved she still tended to use as few words as possible to get her point across.

y/n made her way down the hall, back into the room she shared with Will. She climbed up the ladder, checking the top bunk. "Will-" The girl paused, seeing an empty bed. "Joyce! Will isn't here!" She called, the woman pacing in the kitchen.

"He's not in bed?!" She questioned as y/n walked back into the room, the girl shaking her head. "Did he come home last night?" Jonathan shook his head, y/n nodding. "Will left Mike's house before me."

Joyce turned to Jonathan, raising a brow. "Why weren't you here?" The boy looked back down to his cooking, "I-I picked up an extra shift at work."

"You what?!"

"Jonathan!" Joyce rolled her eyes, making her way over to the phone. She waited for three rings, Mrs. Wheeler picking up on the other end. The two conversed for a minute before Joyce hung up, cupping a hand over her mouth.

y/n frowned, this wasn't good.

"That's weird? Why aren't they here?"

Lucas shrugged, the boys starting their walk into school. "y/n probably dragged him to get her food or something, they're fine." Dustin nodded in agreement, Mike sighing.

"Look who it is!"

The three boys turned, frowning at the sight of their relentlessly bullies. However before the two boys could say anything they were attacked by a bee, y/n appearing behind them. She walked straight forward, her eyes on the ground.

The boys quickly followed behind her, flanking her sides. "Where's Will?" Mike questioned the girl stopping dead in her tracks. She looked much different then two years ago, her hair had grown to her shoulders and her baby face had faded slightly, though her chubby cheeks remained.

And no matter what she always wore Steve's old hat.

He had given it to her christmas of 5th grade and she hadn't taken it off since. And whenever she was nervous she picked at it with her nails, the tip of the cap now ratty and torn.

"Will...Will not home." She answered, Mike giving her a strange look. "What do you mean?" y/n frowned, out of all the boys she was closest with Will, the girl always sticking to his side. She looked up, her eyes glazed over.

"Will not home." She repeated herself.

y/n went through the motions of the day blankly, her mind occupied. There hadn't been any news about Will and all she wanted was to go to her biggest comfort. So at lunch she waved goodbye to the boys and biked the short distance to Hawkins High school.
