"Turn around! Look at what you see! "

Dustin stared at Max and Lucas, a frown set on his face. He did not appreciate being mocked for what he had done to save the world. "In her face! The mirror of your dreams! Rhymes that keep their secrets! Will unfold behind the clouds!"

Max paused, "Did we get that verse right? It's unfold behind the clouds?" Dustin nodded, "Yeah, but you're butchering it, so could you please stop." Lucas smiled, "So then join in Dusty-bun."

Max grinned, "Yeah come on Dusty-bun, why don't you join us?" The boy rolled his eyes, placing something else inside the box. "You guys are so funny, you should be on Carson."

"Can't we just hear your rendition?" Max tilted her head, smiling cheekily. "No." Dustin deadpanned.

"Just one verse?"

The three looked up, y/n entering the room with a box.

"Not even for me?" She smiled. Dustin shook his head, quickly standing to take the box from her. "Stop it y/n, you're supposed to be resting." He grabbed the box, pointing y/n to a cushioned chair they had yet to pack, specifically for her.

y/n sighed, taking a seat with a groan. "I'm not an old lady." Max chuckled, "Might as well be." She and Lucas exchanged glances, beginning to sing once more. y/n smiled, wishing she had been able to hear Dustin sing.

It had been three months since Starcourt "burnt to the ground". According to the doctors her heart had stopped beating for a minute but they were able to get her into the ambulance and resurrect her.

However they had left in a hurry and hadn't told anyone she was still alive, leaving everyone to believe she was dead. But a few hours later they received a call that she was alive, though, not doing so great.

She was kept in the hospital for a month and they did several surgeries on her to close the hole in her stomach. Luckily the mind flayer hadn't punctured anything important so for the most part she was okay.

In the end she came out of the battle with 18 stitches, a concussion, and a few other bruises.

And now they were moving to California.

"Shut up you guys!" Dustin rolled his eyes at his friends, waving his middle finger at them. He stood, pulling y/n up from her chair and dragging her towards the kitchen. He began to tape up a box, y/n turning to him.

"Are you seriously mad Dusty-bun?"

She began to hear sniffling, a sad smile taking over her face. "Dustin." The boy turned around, tears and snot running down his face. "It's not fair." y/n pulled him into a hug, Dustin crying onto her shoulder.

y/n felt tears pool in her eyes, pulling away from the boy. She wiped his snot with her jacket sleeve, pressing her forehead to his. "Why're you leaving me?! It's not fair! The girl I love is leaving-"

Dustin paused, realizing what he said.

y/n smiled, tears sliding down her cheeks. She wiped his nose once more, clearing the snot away before she locked lips with him, smiling into the kiss. She pulled away a moment later, twisting her hand through one of Dustin's curls.

"I love you too."

y/n wrapped her arms around Max, the redhead tightening their hug. She smiled, blinking back her tears. "I'm gonna miss our sleepovers." y/n nodded, pulling away. "We'll have one as soon as I get back."

Max nodded, "Yeah."

She turned to Lucas and Mike, hugging them. "Don't fight too much while I'm gone." They nodded, y/n releasing them so Mike could go to Eleven. She wiped the tears falling down her cheeks, turning to Dustin.

She pulled him into a hug, sniffling into his chest. "I'm sorry." She sobbed, the boy rubbing her back. "It's okay." She pulled away, laughing as she wiped at his tears. She took a step back, looking over her friends.

Will appeared at her side, grabbing her hand. y/n glanced over at the boy, tears running down his cheeks. "Time to go?" He nodded, gulping down the lump in his throat. "Yeah."

y/n sighed, waving one last goodbye to her friends as she climbed into the back of Jonathan's car. Her tears blurred her vision as she looked out the window, biting her lip. "Jonathan?" The boy nodded, starting the car.

"Can we make a quick stop?"

y/n looked up to the big house with a smile, tears running down her cheeks. "Knock." She whispered, knowing nobody was able to hear her. However the door opened anyway, a tall brunette standing there.

"Knock?"

Y/N bit back her smile. "I knock."

Steve stepped out of the house, pulling the girl into his chest. "You look so different from back then." He sighed, y/n wiping her tears on his shirt. She smiled up at him. "Not the hair." She had chopped off her hair after Starcourt, learning it was easier to throw up with it short.

"Not the hair." Steve chuckled, pushing his hat down onto her head. "We'll have more pizza when you come to visit." y/n nodded, stepping back. "See you later." Steve waved, the girl starting up his driveway. "And by the way!" She turned over her shoulder, Steve wearing the same expression he had the first night he tucked her into bed.

"You've really grown into the name y/n, it's perfect."
