At the sound of the bell ringing repeatedly y/n picked up her head, smiling. "Hey dingus, your children are here." Robin's voice rang out from the cash register, Steve sliding open the windows behind her. "Seriously?"

It had almost been a full year since they killed the mind flayer. El still hadn't been allowed to go out but according to Hopper she would be able to attend freshman year with them at the end of summer.

y/n had spent most of her summer at the Scoops Ahoy with Robin and Steve. Her friend group hadn't hung out much since El and Mike had begun dating, it was almost as if El forgot about everyone but him.

The sisters hadn't even seen each other since the snow ball, it was ridiculous. Meanwhile Dustin had been away at summer camp so y/n found herself either with Will, Steve, or Max whenever she wasn't with Lucas.

So much for a fun summer.

"You're late." y/n poked her head out from behind Steve, the boy waving the kids behind the counter. They all filed in a straight line, Steve leading them to a back door. "Come on, come on." He waved them through, the kids beginning down a long hallway.

"I swear if anybody hears about this-"

"We're dead." The kids finished his sentence in unison, knowing the boy's threats all too well. They eventually made it to a door leading to the movie theater, Mike poking his head out. "All clear." He whispered, stepping out.

And just like that they made it into the movie without paying, perks of having friends who work at the mall. Starcourt, a new mall that had just opened and was all the jazz in Hawkins now. It was the place to hangout.

Mike sat down, turning to Lucas. "See Lucas? We made it." y/n sat beside Will, Lucas turning to them from where he was seated in front. "We missed the previews." Max grinned, "Still made it, fart face."

Ignoring this y/n turned to Will, the boy pulling snacks out of his bag. He handed them to her, the girl turning and passing them to Max and Lucas. Eventually Will handed her her own snacks, the movie theater going silent as the movie started.

y/n stared at the screen in suspense, the light slowly flickering before shutting off. The theater erupted in shouts of disappointment, some even going as far to throw popcorn at the screen.

y/n looked around, reaching for Will's hand beside her. When she didn't feel it she turned to the boy, the lights coming back on as she did. The film appeared on the screen again, everyone cheering and clapping.

However y/n was still focused on the boy beside her, Will staring into space, his hand clasped to the back of his neck. She ached to use her powers but he had made her promise not to, in order to spare her the trauma.

"Will?" Mike heard this, turning to the two kids. "Will? Are you okay?" At the sound of the two voices the brunette snapped out of his daze, turning to Mike first, then y/n. "Yeah, of course." He gave a slight smile, turning back to the movie.

"At least someones happy I'm home."

y/n frowned at this, hearing the boy's words in the other room. Little did he know they hadn't forgotten he was home, in fact they'd planned him a surprise party to welcome him back. Of course y/n felt guilty for lying but Mike had said it was for the greater good.
