Ellianna
•
I was never the type of girl to stand out, I was always one to blend in. I made average grades and had an average life, nothing eventful had happened to me since I was a child, and I liked it that way. I hated the spotlight and was perfectly content blending in. That's exactly what I had done my freshman year of high school and I planned the same thing for my sophomore year. No drama, no chaos just blending in. I had a blissful three-month summer break, but now I was back in the bedlam of North View high school. I didn't dislike my school, but sometimes I wish it was less about the football team and more about learning, but hey I guess that's the price of living in the southern state of Alabama.I walked up to my locker which was right next to my best friend Miranda's. She, of course, was dressed up for the first day of school, her tanned olive skin looked great in a blue and white skirt set her platform sandals boosted her 5'3" height a few inches and her normally curly long dark brown hair was straightened. She was beautiful and had an outgoing personality to match.
She hugged me as if she hadn't seen me in forever, when in fact we had hung out three days ago.
" I love the outfit Ellianna." I smiled at Miranda before gazing down at my peach shirt with the cream lace detail at the bottom and my dark blue jeans that had holes placed perfectly. "I would think you'd like it considering you picked the outfit for me."
I opened my new locker, then took the mirror and books from my JanSport and placed them inside, taking a moment to survey my light blonde wavy hair and ocean blue eyes in the mirror.
"So what's your first class Ellianna." Miranda grabbed my schedule to survey it. Something I hadn't done since I had gotten it at Sophomore orientation three weeks ago. " Ew that sucks you have Mrs.Andrews for chemistry first, you know Matt had her right? Yeah, they didn't even get along, but then again Matt didn't get along with any of his teachers." Miranda shrugged her shoulders. Miranda had 4 siblings, Marrissa, Matt, Miguel, and Marisol. Miranda was smack dab in the middle of the bunch. Matt was Miranda's older troublemaker brother he was a senior this year at North View and also this year's coveted varsity football captain.
"Well it's a good thing I'm nothing like your brother then maybe I'll have some better luck with her, what's your first class." I looked over at my friend who pulled her schedule out of her new kate spade tote bag, only Miranda would ever have a designer bag instead of a real backpack.
"I've got Mr.Lucas for English, I heard he's pretty cool I don't even think Matt had a problem with him." I rolled my eyes as I shut my locker. "How is Matt by the way?" I asked.
"Annoying his head has swollen to the size of Jupiter since he got the captain spot this year, but whatever I guess he deserves it." I giggled, Miranda always knew how to make me laugh.
"Speaking of Matt, look who's walking over here." Mer and I turned our heads down the hall where Matt and two other guys were walking toward us. One of them was Colin Moore, my neighbor, and former friend. Now up-and-coming wide receiver of the North View golden eagles. The other guy I didn't know, but damn was he good to look at he was tall with broad shoulders, his dark blonde hair gently fell across his forehead and his smile lit up the entire hallway.
"Hey little sis, how was the bus?" Matt smirked at her, referencing how he refused to drive her to school this morning.
"It sucked, of course, who's your new friend?" Miranda said looking at the new kid. He looked at us and smiled his perfect toothpaste commercial smile.
"I'm Shane Anderson, I moved here over the summer from Mississippi," he told us. I smiled a half-smile back and reached out my hand. "I'm Ellianna Wesbrook, and this is Miranda, Welcome to North View," I said introducing myself and my best friend.
"So you're the mysterious new quarterback my brother has been talking about, you must be good if they put a new sophomore on varsity." Miranda looked him up and down as if she was trying to figure him out.
"Just wait till you see me at the game Friday, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised," Shane said with a smirk. I raised my eyebrows, now trying to figure him out for myself. Was he just trying to be funny or was he that cocky?
"How was your summer, Colin?" Miranda asked now shifting her focus toward the boy with brown hair and green eyes. He shrugged his shoulders, Colin was one of the most nonchalant people I knew.
"It was alright, you know, football," he replied. And that's about all you'll get from Colin, he was always quiet, unless you were close like we used to be. Then the bell rang signifying we had five minutes to get to class. We all groaned a bit, knowing that in five minutes we would all be burdened with schoolwork.
"Better get to class Mer you don't wanna be tardy on the first day," Matt said sarcastically. Miranda smirked at him. "Says you, Matthew Sanchez king of tardy." Matt ruffled the top of his sister's head messing up her hair as he turned away from us with his posse. "See ya at home Miranda," he called out as he walked away.
Miranda smoothed out her hair as we began walking in the opposite direction of Matt and his gang. "So what do you think of the new guy? He's pretty hot right?" I scoffed.
"Even if he is hot you know I don't mess with the athletes, especially not one of Matts's brainless friends." Miranda gave me a 'seriously?' type of look. "Hey just because he's Matts's friend doesn't mean he's brainless."
Now it was my turn to give her the 'seriously?' look and we both laughed as we approached the chemistry hallway. "This is my stop," I told her.
"See you at lunch?" she asked me back, and I nodded. "Definitely" then I turned and walked a little piece down the hall till I reached the door of my chemistry classroom.
I walked in the door of my class surveying the setup of rows of black tables that lined the classroom. all of them with two chairs so that every student had a lab partner. There was only one empty table left, sitting lonely in the back corner of the classroom. so naturally I took a seat as the final bell rang and Mrs. Andrews walked in to start telling us the lesson plans for the year, only to be interrupted by a loud knock on the classroom door.
Mrs.Andrews approached the door and opened it to reveal none other than the boy from this morning. Shane Anderson of course already tardy on the first day. I surveyed the room hoping I had missed a seat earlier but my worst fears were confirmed when a tall muscular blonde boy carelessly plopped right next to me. "Ellianna right?" he said to me smirking. I couldn't decide if I was charmed or annoyed. I just nodded my head as Mrs.Andrews started talking.
"Good morning class and welcome to chemistry, I hope you all like your seats because these will be permanent for the year." Some kids buzzed with excitement and some groaned, but I just sat there in shock, I was gonna be stuck with this potentially asshole Brainless jock for a lab partner all year long.
