Y/n stayed up the rest of the night and thought 'what the hell just happened? Why me? What does it mean?' She went outside to get some air feeling claustrophobic. Her crow from way back when came to her with a note on its back. "Don't tell me you're pregnant?" I crossed my arms ecstatic to see the note kneeling in front of my crow. "I'm not a girl!" Y/n looked at 'him' with wide eyes putting one hand on her mouth. "When was the last time you checked?" I slid the note from its container opening it. "You listen here-" the crow began to give me its two cents while I stood walking away reading the note. The letter was from Zenitsu. We used to send each other letters when we were younger. He got busy with training and couldn't send them often.
Then I moved away with Mrs. Saphen to start cultivating my abilities as well. That reminds me, Tanjiro said he would be sending me letters whenever he could. I thought it was adorable not thinking too much into it since he's on missions like clockwork. Although, I can't lie that I've been looking forward to them. Y/n found herself smiling at the thought and placed both of her hands behind her neck wrinkling the letter. 'This had no business making me smile like this. ' She thought to herself having a nice distraction from that weird dream. She began to wonder biting her nail and went back inside to get dressed. Y/n couldn't go back to sleep so she decided to train without her sword tonight.
The darkness of night climbed back into its abyss making way for the soft orange-pink hue of the morning with the sun. Y/n was working on her flexibility stretching out her muscles to distract her mind from that dream. She was sitting in a soft patch of grass in the shade leaning in the middle with her legs spread. "I don't remember it hurting this bad," I spoke to myself hearing the snap of some twigs and leaves. "You're up early. I thought you hated mornings." Sakonji held my sword in his hand handing it to me. "I couldn't sleep much last night so..." my words trailed off as I grabbed the handle standing up. Sakonji gave me an unsatisfied grunt as he walked past me and beckoned me to follow him. "Today you need to learn to maintain a steady balance of your ability. With your sword for example; It changed to white, but only covers the previous color."
Y/n attached her sword around her waist, still observing the scenery around her for any traps. One can't just walk in nature with man-made traps at every turn. Sakonji stifled a chuckle, "There are no traps out here y /n. You can calm down now." I squinted my eyes tilting my head, "Uh-huh, I'm not buying it! After falling down a hole it makes it difficult to trust you." They strolled down the grassy path in silence until they reached a thicker part of the forest. The air was denser with a slight heavy fog crawling among the grass. There were lines of branches in a square shape high off the ground.
"These branches are petite and skinny, but strongly bound together. Try getting from this log to the other going along the branches." Sakonji leaned against a nearby tree waiting for me to begin. I bend over in a squat position stretching before climbing up the log. It was like a game of tic tac toe but instead, you're walking along the hashtag. I take a few steps onto the branches holding my arms to maintain balance. A gust of wind shot past me tipping me over to the side. Y/n stepped down on the other branch next to her in a panic when she dropped through. Y/n collides with the earth on her back groaning. "Straighten your form...again!" Sakonji got more comfortable taking a seat on the ground. Y/n let out a frustrated sigh attempting the hashtag trail again.
"Again, relax your shoulders."
"Again, try not to hop on the branches."
"Again, don't use your hands to grab the branches."
"How the hell am I supposed to walk on skinny frail branches!? It's like walking on water! It's impossible." Y/n plopped down on the ground with balled-up fists. This was going to take some time for her to master. In the meantime Tanjiro was helping out in the inn he was staying at. "If I find one speck of dust on my furniture, I'll have each of your heads for it!" An elderly woman In a soft green kimono shouted. "Why should we have to dust your place?!" Inosuke wailed his arms up in the air while Zenitsu was dusting every piece of furniture. "Forgive my friend ma'am, he's a bit tired to do this type of work right Inosuke?" Tanjiro carried a large bucket of water with a floating rag and a gentle smile plastered on his face.
"Tired?!? Give me that bucket!" Inosuke grabbed the bucket spilling water and splashed it on the furniture. "Hey!! What the heck is wrong with you?!?" Zenitsu balled his fist glaring at Inosuke, getting his clothes wet. "I'll be the first one to clean this place faster than any of you!" Inosuke began scrubbing the furniture wildly. "Well, at least he's enthusiastic about cleaning now...I guess." Tanjiro sighs and looks back at the elderly woman about to beat all of them with a broom. "You little brats better finish before I return," the elderly woman left them alone.
After all was finally at peace Tanjiro sat up late in the afternoon thinking of what to write to Y/n. He started writing on a whim unaware of Zenitsu walking up behind him. "Who's that for?" Zenitsu peered around Tanjiro's shoulder reading the letter. "It's for n-nothing, I mean no one!" Tanjiro covers the letter still wet with paint. 'Wait y/n?' Zenitsu spoke his close friend's name in his head seeing her name on the paper. "Hey, Tanjiro, you like y/n don't you!?" Zenitsu teased to make sure he was correct and he saw Tanjiro's cheeks set ablaze. "How did you- Ugh, you better not tell her!" Tanjiro gripped his friends' shoulders but Zentisu just giggled evilly. "Okay, okay. I'm sure she already likes you!"
"Did she say that?!" Tanjiro started shaking Zenitsu for more information. "C-calm down! You guys hung out right? She must have taken a liking to you." Zenitsu went on to the reception desk to ask for extra blankets since it was freezing outside. Tanjiro let out a frustrated sigh smacking his head against the table. Does enjoying someone's company really mean you like them? He received compliments but that doesn't mean y/n liked him back. "If I hung out with her more maybe that could change. Let's just start writing..."
