Jake and I were making our way to the main building when it dawned on me that I had checked in with Steven and now I was with Jake. We still had to check out, so perhaps Jake and Steven could switch bodies just for a little while. I stopped walking. "Jake." He looked back and saw that I stopped. He walked back over to me. "What, cariño?" I involuntarily smiled at the name. However, I continued. "I checked in with Steven." "Okay." Jake shrugged. "Am I supposed to care about that?" I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "What I'm saying is that it's a little suspicious that I came in with Steven and now I'm coming out with you." "They won't notice." Jake started walking again. I followed him. "Jake! Come on! I just want to be careful, is all." "Careful? With the staff? I'm sure we'll be fine." We were now in front of the building. Jake reached for the door handle. I placed my hand on his and he looked at me. He sighed and took his hand off. "This is really botherin' you, miel?" "Yes." Jake paused. He seemed to be thinking it over. "Alright. I'll go along with this little payasada of yours." I smiled. "Thank you, Jake." "Sí, no lo menciones." "Okay, if you could just have Steven take over the body then we'll be good to g-" "No." The coldness in Jake's voice made me fall silent. "N-no? But we need Steven if we're going to-" "No. I'll do it myself." I looked at Jake with confusion. "What? How?" "I'll just pretend I'm him. It should be a piece of cake considering he's an idiota." I gave Jake a solemn expression. "Jake." "What? It's true." I didn't say anything as I kept staring at him. "Look, cariño, you don't know him like I do. He's a cobarde. A coward." "Not when I was with him." "Okay. Well, that was because you were there." I scoffed. "Yeah, okay." "Y/n, we could argue about this all day long. I say we just go with my plan and get this over with." I took a deep breath as I considered Jake's idea. If he was gonna be this stubborn about it then I guess we had no alternative. I nodded. "Good. Then, let's go." Jake put his hand back on the door handle and opened the door. He stepped inside as I trailed after him. He strolled up to the front desk and set the duffel bag on top of it roughly, making the same lady working there as before jump. "Oh, well if it isn't the lovely couple from yesterday." I arrived at the desk with Jake and let the suitcase stand on its own as I put my arms on the desk. Jake flashed the woman a grin. I was about to speak but Jake beat me to it. "Hiya. Yeah, we're just checking out of this joint. Lovely place. Yeah, real nice. Don't you agree, love?" I stood there, dumbfounded at Jake's Steven impression. Sure, it was a little exaggerated, but he certainly had the accent down and the energy. I quickly nodded my head. "Yes. It was-" "Anyway, love to stay and chat but we do have a flight to catch. So, it's been a real pleasure." Jake reached out his hand. The woman slowly took it and Jake eagerly shook hands with her. "And perhaps we'll see you again sometime in the future. Coming, darling?" Jake held his arm out. I was even more dumbfounded than before. I snapped out of it though and put my arm in his with a smile. Jake grabbed the duffel bag as I grabbed a hold of the suitcase. We then began walking away from the front desk. The woman called out to us as we were leaving. "Yes. Do stay with us again!" We left the main building and went to the car. I watched Jake put the bag and suitcase inside, still registering the exchange in the lobby. He closed the door to the backseat and saw me watching him. "What?" "Nothing. I'm just in shock." Jake smirked. "Told you I know him." "I guess you do." I opened the door to the passenger side of the car as Jake walked around the other side and opened the door. "I hope he's not offended." "What? Steven? Offended? No. I can say whatever I want about him and will he confront me about it? Fuck no." Jake and I sat in the car as we shut the doors. He then turned on the car. "That's because you scare him," I mumbled. Jake heard me. "I scare him? Good. Let him be scared. I am not to be messed with. Speaking of messed with, he better not have messed with my guns. He put them all back in the bag, right?" "Uh...I don't know. Probably." Jake sighed angrily and reached into the backseat. He started fiddling with the duffel bag and counting his guns. "Fuck!" "What? What is it?" "There's one missin'! Steven! ¡Pedazo de mierda! ¡Tenías un trabajo! ¡No jugar con mis armas y no perderlas! Fuck!" "I'm sure he didn't mean to lose it, Jake. We were fighting for our lives in that cave." "Do I look like I give a fuck?! Those guns are precious to me! It's like losing a fuckin' child! But Steven wouldn't fuckin' know since he was just the coping mechanism for Marc's problems!" My mouth dropped open in shock. "Fuck! He should've just kept his nose in his own fuckin' business. Then none of this would've fuckin' happened!" I didn't respond. I didn't know what to say. Jake was really upset. More upset than I had ever seen. It was...nerve racking. No wonder Steven was scared of him. Any slight positive thoughts Jake had about him were certainly squashed now. Jake and I sat there in silence. I knew there was nothing I could say to make this better. And I didn't want to get yelled at too. So, I just remained quiet. Jake eventually pulled out of the parking lot and took a deep breath as he drove away.
