A long, long time ago... A young princess and her young prince would play on the hills of the crystal kingdom.
"Kilin, you're going to get stuck like that!" The princess laughed, chasing her small Griffin along with the prince.
"We're gonna get ya!" The prince giggled, using magic to try to catch the little guy.
The Griffin flew just over their heads, cooing happily while dodging their tags.
They came to a stop once the children had finally tired themselves out, and they laid in the grass at the foot of a hill.
"No fair, you're too fast Kilin!" The prince whined, rolling on to his stomach. "Isn't that right, Starlight!"
The princess panted between short bursts of laughter, smiling at her friend. "Yeah, totally! Oh, should I have flown too? I could carry you."
"I'm supposed to carry you..." He smiled, holding his hand out.
She took his hand, interlacing their fingers. "Well, we could take turns. I carry you, then you carry me."
"Okay!" He gushed, resting his head on the grassy cushion.
The grass was like soft jade, brilliantly green and shiny, but soft like a pillow. The prince couldn't get over how different their planets were, but he was fond of both.
"What should we do now, Sunshine?" The princess looked at him, her eyes gleaming.
The prince shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno, anything with you is fun. Ha, when we get older, we should spend the days this way."
The princess giggled, "Yeah. We should. Momma makes being a queen look so easy... I don't wanna take classes, but..."
"Hm, just think about it like this, when we run our kingdom, we'll know exactly what to do to keep people busy so we can do whatever we want." He grinned, inching closer to her side so they were nearly attached at the hip.
"Oh, you're right! You're so smart, Sunshine!" She laughed. "I love that."
"Awe, I'm glad. I can't wait until we run things. I'd never leave your side." He pushed himself up, lightly tugging her hand. "Hugs?"
The princess sat up, giving the boy a hug and resting her head on his shoulder. "Hugs."
They'd just spend the entire day like that if they could, but at a certain time, they'd always part and go back to their parents. The princess would return to her scheduled classes, while the Prince would return to his mother and sisters, who were teaching him the history of the lands they rule.
"Sweetheart, you disappeared again today, where did you go?" The Empress would ask her son, as if she didn't know the answer.
"I went to see Starlight." The prince would always respond, thinking about how he'd sneak out the next day. For two winters he'd do the same thing. Every time they visited the planet, the boy would disappear at during the same hour, be gone until the dawn darkened.
His mother didn't know what he was doing, but the child has always been independent, as most of her other children, so the disappearance didn't bother her as long as he'd return the same day.
He'd always say he went to see Sunshine, and though it confused her, she wasn't too concerned, just thought it was the ramblings of a child.
If he wanted to go out for some sun, who was she to stop him? The sun is the brightest star there is
It was the same for the Queen of the kingdom they were visiting. When the princess would say, "I went to see Sunshine!"
Both of them were honest though one of them was a bit more cunning at that tender age.
The princess knew that, as soon as she'd come of age, she'd be set up for an arranged marriage to a prince from one of the many kingdoms.
So, she plotted.
Her planet has a custom. When proposing, one offers their most important object to their partner. It could be anything, as long as it is far too valuable to simply lose...
