MAXS POV

TW: electrocution

"whoa. dillon. you stay here" smythe says, viewing me walking behind him he stops, while the rest of our coworkers walk to the elevator. he holds out his and stopping me too.

"what?" i ask, confused at why he's keeping me behind.

"there's a current flow problem in the lab. why don't you take a look?" he smirks, continuing to walk. i trail behind him frantically saying, "it's my birthday!" and "everybody else is leaving!" he walks into the elevator, smiling at me, with a smug look on his face.

"why do i have to stay?" i ask, annoyed and upset.

"because you're special" smythe says. i frown slightly, "smythe. i mean, mr. smythe"

"happy birthday" is all he says, before the elevator door shuts on the conversation.

"th-the-three generations of electricity by living organisms to fend off..." kari, the robotic voice malfunctions as i walk into the room full to the brim of tanks and test subjects: electric eels.

"let's see what's going on with you" i mumble to the robotics, though i know i'm talking to myself, walking up to the screens next to the tanks. i look up at the eels swimming in tight circles. "hey, guys"

"he genetically m-m-manipulated..." kari continues, i chuckle. "at least somebody's partying"

i look up, seeing a frazzled wire above me, clearly being the cause of the continuous malfunctions. "alright. just a little sick" i hum, fixing my glasses and walking towards the metal ladder up to the wires. "i got your medicine, though"

i climb the ladder, mumbling and whispering to myself. i walk across the platform, to the next ladder. "i'm so sick that i can't get to my birthday after all i put together for this company"

i continue up the ladder, whispering "designed the grid..."

"warning:" kari starts, "malfunction in sector 5A" i nod and chuckle. "i know. just a little indigestion" i smile, tapping on a broken screen. "i bet you didn't know it was my birthday, huh, did you, kari? think you can sing 'happy birthday' for me? i'll just have to sing it for myself" i laugh at my idiocy, pulling out my walkie talkie.

"gilbert?" "what?" he says, clearly annoyed. "it's max. can we shut down power on sector 32, please?"

"forget it. i'm out the door" "what do you mean? i'm up here. it's dangerous" i say worriedly. (italics up to max)"sorry, max" he says, before the static from the walkie talkie cuts out.

"fine. i'll do it myself. and sing my birthday song too. this is crazy" i roll my eyes, climbing on the railing.

"happy birthday to.." i strain, pulling myself up further. "..me. happy birthday, dear max" i continue, securing my foot on another ledge. "happy birthday.." i grab the two sides of the piep, both of them smoking. "to me" i finish, clicking the pipes together.

i smile, accomplished. that is until electricity pumps through my veins and my whole body is frozen in shock. i wobble at the force pushed through me, until i feel myself falling of the ledge, and plummeting through the different platforms. my brain tries to process the whole thing, but seems incapable to. a new sort of vulnerability hits me as the water envelops my entire body. the sudden impact shoots through me as my eyes shut against the large ripples. my body fights, but already weakened by the electric shock, i'm not strong enough. my lungs begin to burn as air is drawn out of them.

bubbles form around me as heavy waves slam against my body. convulsing, i struggle to regain control, as my thrashing limbs come to a finish and the light above the surface slowly drift away, leaving me numb. eels surround me, seemingly mocking me and laughing at my weakened appearance. water strangles itself around my throat, squeezing every last remnant of my hope out of my body.

i hold onto my last breaths as the cruel eels circle me threateningly, before striking. electricity finds itself flowing around my body again, as the nips from the eels become more and more frequent. blue sparks fly everywhere as my body gets ferociously attacked.

in a last attempt to get out, i thrash around frantically. to my relief, as my eyes start to flutter shut, the tanks glass shatters. a loud, but reassuring noise. the water flows into the ground taking me with it.

the last thing i here before eveurhting fades to black is the quiet sound of kari.

"system restored. have a nice day"

PETERS POV

harry and i walk around the park aimlessly, trying to catch up on each others lives. it had been the longest time, and so, so much has happened.

"after graduation, i went to brazil, then singapore" harry sighs, squinting as the early summer sun shines in his eyes.

i nod "that's right, yeah, yeah"

"and then europe. you know, i went to europe" he says, picking up some rocks and attempting to skip them.

"i saw you" i state simply, nodding. "what do you mean, you saw me?" harry asks, his eyebrows furrowed and a confused look on his face.

"i saw you in some magazine with some rench supermodel" i laugh, bending down to pick up some stones. "you know what i'm talking about?"

"yeah, yeah, yeah" he chuckles and grins, before continuing. "dude, that whole model thing is so exhausting. anyway, y/ns your girl?"

i laugh, before turning to face him fully. "uh, yeah she is. more than a year now"

"good job bud. her parents okay with it all?" he smiles softly, attempting to skip another rock.

"they do now yeah. it's- it's been a rocky road." i smile, squeezing into the rock in my hand hard.

harry chuckles, "you pulled a good one. she works for this shitty guy at oscorp. god, i'm sick to death of them"

"yeah y/ns mentioned him a lot. she says he's a bit of a creep"

"seems it, yeah. you know, when my father sent me away i tried to forget everything about this place. i guess that kind of included you"

"you don't gotta explain anything to me, man. we both got dumped" i say.

"you ever figure out why your parents bailed?" harry questions, looking at me in the eyes. "my dad left a briefcase. that's all i got, briefcase full of junk" i exhale slowly, letting my breath puff at my cheeks. "whatever. i don't know. i try not to think about it"

"how's that working out for you?" harry asks, picking up some more stones.

"perfectly, dude" i state. i take the rock in my hand, and flick my wrist, skipping the stone on the water perfectly.

"nice arm" he smiles.

"it's just the wrist. it's just all in the wrist, buddy. you could do it too if you just strengthened up that" i smile, trying to teach him, even thought i know i have the advantage.

"yeah, right" harry scoffs, trying to skip another stone. "you gotta admit, though. things have gotten crazy around here, man. giant lizards and spider guys"

i tense up and let out a forced chuckle, "uh, just one guy. just one spiderman. or woman- we don't know.. for sure" i ramble, before harry cuts me off.

"whatever, dude. he wears spandex to rescue kittens from trees"

"i kind of like to think he gives people hope" i smile softly. harry scoffs again, and replies: "for what?" "maybe eventually everything's gonna be all right" i say, skipping another rock.

"yeah, i just wish i had time for 'eventually'"

hope you enjoyed <3
