"Are you out of your goddamned mind?!" Ryan asks incredulously. Laura's been telling us what she's been through the past two months. "Werewolves? Seriously? What the fuck." Honestly, it's the only thing that makes sense when you put all the pieces together. The blonde chuckles and he looks at her with confusion.
"What? What- what- what's so funny?"
"I said literally the exact same thing." It makes so much sense to me. It's why Andrew would get so freaked out on the nights of a full moon and why he had it as his wallpaper. It was a reminder of what would be coming out on those nights.
So not only was he carrying the weight of a fire he helped start, but also the knowledge that werewolves existed. No wonder he was so fucked up at thirteen years old. I would be too. Jesus, I had no idea just how much hell he was going through. And all alone too. God, I wish I'd known.
Wish I could've helped carry that burden for him so he wouldn't have had to shoulder all of it. And I understand why he didn't tell me, I probably would have thought he was crazy. I definitely don't think that after the night I've had. Seeing is believing and I think I'm a believer. "Okay… do you- you got anything better? I mean, like… zombies? Aliens? Time hopping Draculas?"
"Ryan, right?" She asks him and he looks taken aback by the question. "Yeah?"
"You want answers… I've got answers. Interrupt me again, you're on your own." I grin at her response. She's kind of a badass. Of course, that doesn't mean I like her personally because I don't think that'll ever happen. Not after what she did to Kaylee. "Whatever."
"Would it really be so crazy?" I ask and he glances at me. "With all the shit we've been seeing- with Nick! With that thing on the roof… okay, it would really start to explain a lot of stuff."
"Dylan." He shakes his head in disbelief. "I'm just trying to keep an open mind, okay? This is like your ghost stories. How is this so different from that?"
"Those- those- those… are just… campfire stories. Like, there has to be a rational explanation for everything. For all of this."
"Okay, you were not talking so rational when you separated my hand from the rest of my body." I gesture to the stump which thankfully the pain has lessened thanks to the painkillers Kaitlyn gave me. "You told me to! How many times do I have to say it!"
"And if it's bite with which your faced, cleave limb from torso with great haste." I nod at her little rhyme. "What?" Ryan asks sounding baffled. "You did the right thing."
"See, she's got a whole poem about it." She gets up and walks over to Ryan, lifting her hand up to the eye patch, showing him what's underneath it. I couldn't see it thanks to the darkness and cause of the angle she was at. "There's more to all this than you think." She slides it back into place, dropping her hand down by her side.
"Just let me finish. Then you can decide for yourself if you believe me or not. I don't care. But I think you should hear all of it." She returns to her seat and continues her story. "The next few weeks were long. The cop kept us fed and let us take showers, but aside from that we barely saw him."
The Sheriff of North Kill, Andrew's uncle, he's the one that kidnapped them and threw them into cells. So then the whole family must know about werewolves. "Max and I, we talked… a lot. As much as we could about what happened that night. It was like trading conspiracy theories."
I think about Andrew huddled in the bathroom. What must be going through his mind right now. He obviously didn't mean for what he said to come out like that, but it did. So now what is he gonna do? I focus back on Laura.
