Hi! My name is Joseph and I'm a College Student studying Biology in Chicago, IL. This is my first time writing and sharing a story on Wattpad. This reflects my second combined passion besides the study of Biology - Drawing and Writing. Of all the things I could've chosen to write on Wattpad, I chose a Star vs the Forces of Evil fan fiction for very special reasons. When I was a freshmen at my local community college, I saw an article talking about the top 10 Disney channel cartoons. Disney's Star vs the Forces of Evil was close to the top of the list. I read further and further about the show and thought to myself "this is probably a good show but I don't think I have the time to watch it".
One day, I went out to dinner with friends. We were talking about the latest and greatest new shows and I brought up Star. To my surprise, not only did my friends know about the show but told me it was pretty good. I knew then I had to see it, but still, I kept pushing it to the back of my mind. Then, around January 2020, COVID-19 arrived in the U.S. at full force and my world was turned upside down.
During lockdown, I found myself nearly bored to tears. It was at that moment that I decided to finally watch Star vs the Forces of Evil. It was awesome! It's creativity and humor made me instantly fall in love with the show! As I watched each season, I continued to research the show, finding out about the controversy surrounding its 2019 cancellation. Not only that, I found out that one of the creators was in favor of more seasons and a petition was in place to do just that. It was at that moment that a maybe wild but very brilliant idea emerged. If there is such strong support for another Star season, this could be an opportunity for me to test my writing skills and pitch an idea to continue Star vs The Forces of Evil.
I worked a long time to craft this story! I'm not lying when I say I put my heart and soul into this! I started on the earliest draft on March 9, 2020 and finished with the latest draft on April 19, 2022. The story itself wasn't designed as a fan fiction (which kinda reflects its formatting). This was meant to be an official blueprint for a SVTFOE Movie. My plan was simple - I would present the idea to Disney and the shows original creators, give them full copyright to the story (only fair they were the show's creators), and allow them to make any changes to it they would like. Once I got the ball rolling though, snags appeared everywhere.
I got in touch with Disney by email. I only asked if it would be ok if I could send my idea in so Disney could review it. After weeks of no reply, Disney's legal team emailed me. With kind bluntness, they told me they received my email and declined my request. Their reason - an obscure policy that forbids Disney from receiving "unsolicited" movie ideas. I'll admit I was disheartened, but knew they had a good point!
The project in its official capacity is at best in hiatus. There is still a remote possibility Disney might accept the idea someday, but I'm under no illusions of how difficult that could be. This is why I am sharing it here on Wattpad! I want to share my idea, get honest feedback on it, and make my contribution to the Star vs The Forces of Evil fandom.
