SPEEDING DOWN THE EMPTY STREETS OF HAWKINS, SAM GELD UO A MAP TO DIRECT MAX. In the back, Steve laid unconscious, bandaids and an ice pack over his face.
"No, don't touch it." Dustin mumbled. "Hey, buddy...shhh. It's okay, you put up a good fight. He kicked your ass, but you put up a good fight."
"I don't think that's helping, Dust." Sam glanced over her shoulder. "Max, you gotta keep straight for half a mile, then you turn left on Mount Sinai."
"What's going on?" Steve sat up slowly, locking eyes with Max in the drivers seat.
"Steve, just relax. She's driven before." Dustin soothed.
"Yeah, in a parking lot." Mike countered.
"That counts." Lucas jumped in.
"Oh my God." Steve grumbled.
"They we're gonna leave you behind." Dustin told him. "But I promised that you'd be cool, okay?"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What's going on?" Steve flung back as Max hit the accelerator.
"Oh, my God! No, whoa! Stop the car! Stop the car!" Steve rambled.
"I told you he'd freak out." Mike shouted.
"Stop the car!" Steve continued.
"Everybody shut up! I'm trying to focus." Max yelled, glancing over her shoulder.
"Oh, wait, that's Mount Sinai. Make a left!" Lucas popped up from the back seat.
"What?" Max and Sam furrowed their eyebrows.
"Make-Turn left!" Lucas repeated. They all screamed as Max made a very sharp, very illegal turn. Well, the boys screamed, Sam just held onto her seat.
"Wait! Stop that's the hole!" Sam pointed ahead. Max slammed on the brakes and everyone slid forward.
"Whoa!" Steve yelled.
"Incredible." Mike praised.
"I told you. Zoomer." Max looked ahead confidently. Sam laughed, holding her hand up for a high five. Max returned the gesture quickly with a smile.
Jumping out of the car, the group made their way to the trunk and pulled on their protective gear.
"Oh, no. Guys!" Steve groaned as he fell from the back seat. Mike walked away first.
"Where do you think you're going with that?" Steve pushed. "What are you def? Hello? We are not going down there right now. I made myself clear. Hey there is no chance we are going down that hole, alright?" Steve rounded to the trunk where Dustin was the last to be. "This ends, right now!"
"Steve! You're upset, I get it. But the bottom line is, a party member requires assistance, and it is our duty to provide that assistance. Now, I know you promised Nance that you would keep us safe." The Henderson boy dug in the trunk, pulling out a book bag with the bat. "So keep us safe."

Jumping down into the hole, Steve looked around in awe.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's this way!" Mike pointed his light ahead of him.
"You're pretty sure, or you're certain?" Sam asked for clarification.
"I'm 100% sure. Just follow me and you'll know." Mike scoffed at their apprehensions to believe him.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey! I don't think so." Steve stopped the Wheeler boy before he could set off.
"What?" Mike huffed.
"Any of you little shits die down here, I'm gonna get the blame. Got it, dipshit?" The oldest teen snatched the paper from Mikes hands. "From here on out, I'm leading the way. Okay, let's go. Come on! Hey, a little hustle!"
"Okay, asshole! We're coming! Jesus." Sam yelled back from the tail of the line.
"Henderson, I don't wanna hear your voice." Steve yelled to her.
"I don't wanna hear yours, but sometimes we have to do things we don't like." Sam retorted smoothly.

After walking for what seemed like hours, they finally made it to a fork in the road.
"God." Lucas groaned.
"What is this place?" Max asked rhetorically.
"Guys come on. Let's keep moving." Steve ushered them along.
Faintly, they heard Dustin scream and curse. Sam's stomach sank in fear.
"Dustin? Dustin!" She immediately turned and sprinted to where she'd last seen him, ignoring the pain in her knee.
"Help! Help, help!" The boy continued screaming. As the group made it to him, he tripped and fell to the ground.
"What? What happened?" Steve pushed by.
"It's in my mouth. Some got in my mouth! Shit!" The Henderson boy ripped the mask off his face and began to spit up whatever had gotten on him. After a few seconds of coughing and dry heaving, he looked up.
"I'm okay." He panted.
"You serious?" Max groaned.
"Very funny, man." Steve rolled his eyes.
"You son of a bitch! Don't do that!" Sam smacked his arm repeatedly before swiftly walking away.
"Jesus, what an idiot." Max shook her head.
"Hey, wait. Wait!" Dustin ran after them.
After a bit more walking, the came across the meeting point of all the tunnels.
"Alright Wheeler, I think we found your hub." Steve pointed his light across the walls.
"Let's drench it." Mike said firmly. They group quickly got to work, pouring and spraying their gasoline canisters over every reachable space. They weren't half assing this, if they were gonna do it, they'd do it right.
Once they were out of fuel, they crouched in the tunnel, ready to run.
"Alright. You guys ready?" Steve pulled the gloves off his hands and took out his lighter.
"Ready." They nodded back.
"Light her up." Dustin said confidently.
"I am in such deep shit." Steve panted, flicking the lighter on. The Harrington teen threw the lighter and the room went up in flames. Almost immediately after, the roaring and whimpering of the dogs was heard.
"Let's go. Let's go! Go, go." Steve pushed the kids ahead of him.
"Keep running! Just go!" Sam urged.
Without stopping, the group rushed back to the rope. Sam trailing behind to make sure everyone got out safely. This proved to be a good thing as when Mike tripped and fell over, Sam was there to pull him back up. However, it wasn't that easy, as a vine from the ground wrapped around his ankle. Sam grabbed the thing with both her hands, pulling harshly until it ripped in two. She panted before pushing Mike off the ground and into the group. Steve helped the girl up.
"Damn, Henderson." He huffed.
"Okay, we gotta go. We gotta go." Dustin went to move, but immediately stopped when he turned. In front of them, a Demo-Dog stood at the ready. Dustin pushed the group back before sighing softly.
"Dart." He stated. Taking a step forward, the group began yelling for him to get back, Sam even grabbed his jacket, but the boy just hushed them.
"Trust me, please." He begged slightly. The dog stepped forward threateningly and Sam clasped her hand to her mouth.
"Hey, hey. It's me. It's your friend. It's Dustin." The Henderson boy took off the goggles and mask, bending down for the monster to see him better. "It's Dustin, alright? You remember me?" The creature chittered softly. "Will you let us pass?" It opened its face and roared. Sam gasped, grabbing onto Steve's arm tightly.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry about the storm cellar. That was a pretty douchey thing to do. You hungry? Yeah?" Dustin slid his book bag off his back.
"He's insane." Lucas whispered.
"Shh. Shh...Just-don't." Sam waved her hand absentmindedly in his face.
"Shut up." Steve glanced at the boy.
"I've got our favorite. See? Nougat." The Henderson boy smiled softly, holding a 3 Musketeers up to show Dart. "Look at that. Yummy. Here, alright?" Dustin placed the chocolate down. "Eat up buddy. Come on. Come on!" He ushered his group without taking his eyes off the dog.
"There's plenty. I've got more." Dustin placed the other half down, standing up and maneuvering around it. He glanced back sadly. Dart turned, a soft chitter escaping his face.
"Goodbye, buddy." Dustin sighed, allowing Sam to pull him back into motion.

"Come on, let's go. Let's go!" Steve pushed them. Suddenly the tunnel rumbled and the group stumbled around from the uneven movements. The dogs roared from behind them.
"What was that?" Max turned swiftly.
"They're coming." Mike confirmed. "Run! Run!"
Once they found the rope, Max was up first. Then it was Lucas, then Mike, then Dustin. Just as Sam was to climb up, the dogs caught up. Steve held his bat at the ready and took a deep breath.
"Sam! Come on. Sam!" The kids yelled from above them. Fortunately, the dogs weren't after their group, and they just ran right by the last two stuck down there.
Steve grabbed Sam and pulled her close to him, making sure her injured knee was tucked safely between his own. Sam panted in relief as the dogs passed them without harm.
Once they were all gone, Steve boosted Sam up the rope before climbing up himself. The group sat in the dirt, catching their breath.
Sam removed her protective gear and turned towards Steve. His badly beaten up face was now visible as he too had removed the gear. Sam grabbed the sides of his face planting a kiss to his cheek.
"Thank you." She breathed out heavily. Steve sat there with wide eyes before snapping back to it.
"Oh, yeah...Yeah, no. It-It wasn't a problem." He stood, holding his hand down for her to take.
The cars headlights grew brighter and brighter, causing the group to shield their eyes. Then, they just blinked out.
"She did it." Sam nodded absentmindedly. "She closed it."
