HIKING UP THE STEEPEST HILL IN ALL OF HAWKINS WAS TORTURE. Sam was sure she'd drown in sweat before they made it to the top.
"Aren't we high enough?" Lucas panted once he'd grown too tired.
"Cerebro works best at a hundred meters." Dustin countered smoothly. Maz scoffed.
"You know, I'm pretty sure people in Utah have telephones." The Mayfield girl huffed, moving to walk next to Sam.
"Yeah, but Suzie's mormon." The Henderson boy took a deep breath.
"Oh, shit." Lucas sounded guilty. "She doesn't have electricity?"
"No, that's the Amish." The blonde Henderson waved him off.
"What are mormons?" Will finally spoke up.
"Super religious white people." The curly haired boy summed it up pretty well. "They have electricity and cars and stuff, but since I'm not mormon her parents would never approve. It's all a bit... Shakespearean."  Max and Sam chuckled, glancing at each other to check they heard correctly.
"Shakespearean?" The oldest Henderson repeated, sounding unconvinced.
"Yeah. Like Romeo and Juliet." Dustin smiled brightly.
"Right." Max panted out a chuckle.
Dust glanced back at her. "Star-crossed lovers."
"I get it." The Mayfield girl cut him off quickly. Suddenly, Mike called their attention.
"Hey, guys! This is fun and all, but, uh..." The Wheeler boy trailed off in false sadness.
"I have to go home." Eleven finished as Mike tapped his watch.
"We're almost there." Dustin scoffed.
Mike shrugged. "Sorry, man. Curfew." The boy then turned to his girlfriend. "Come on, let's go."
"Good luck." El smiled before giggling down the hill.
Dustin glanced at his watch. "Curfew at four?" He scoffed.
"They're lying." Lucas shook his head in annoyance.
"It's been like this all summer." Will grumbled.
"It's romantic." Max tried to defend their friends.
"It's gross." The Byers boy retorted smoothly.
"It's bullshit." Dustin scoffed again. "I just got home."
The group watched as Mike and El stumbled down the hill, smiling and laughing as their hands never broke apart.
"Well, their loss, right?" The curly haired boy turned back around. "Onwards and upwards. Suzie awaits!"
Lucas and Max groaned, but turned around anyway. Sam chuckled at them as she bounced after, but stopped when Will didn't pass her. The Henderson teen glanced over her shoulder and faltered.
Walking back down quickly, Sam grabbed his shoulder gently. Will jumped with a gasp, sighing when he turned to face the teen.
"Are you okay?" Sam glanced down the hill again before back at the Byers boys face.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm alright." The brunette boy glanced over his shoulder before trekking forward. Sam jogged up to walk beside him, nudging him gently with her elbow.
"You know you can talk to me, Will." She mumbled in case the other got too close. "I love you no matter what."
Will looked up at her quickly, his breath catching in his throat before he sighed. Nodding quickly, the Byers boy smiled softly.
"I know." He told her simply.

Dustin dropped his bag with a small smile, looking over Hawkins. "We made it." He nodded absentmindedly.
"Yeah, only took five hours." Max grumbled.
"Why couldn't we just play D&D?" Will gasped out as he drew in new oxygen. No one answered him, though.
"I'm so thirsty." Lucas dropped all his bags before twisting open the water canister. He gulped it down quickly, before wiping the excess off his lips. Max blinked slowly at him.
"Did you seriously just drink the rest of our water?" The redhead asked rhetorically. Lucas spit the rest in his mouth back into the bottle, holding it towards his girlfriend. Max just shook her head, motioning Sam to help her unload the pieces.
As the sun began to set, the group of five put together all the pieces of Cerebro, finally letting it sit upright once they finished.
"Pretty impressive, right?" Dustin smiled proudly up at it.
Sam took a deep breath, fanning the sweat on her face dry. "Yeah."
"Now, you ready to meet me love?" Dustin dropped to the grass excitedly.
"Okay, sure." Max nodded alone, her hands resting on her hips.
"Yeah." Will shrugged lightly. The rest of the group stood as Dustin grabbed the piece to talk in, Sam resting her arm on Max's shoulder.
"Suzie, this is Dustin. Do you copy? Over." The excited boy couldn't contain his smile. However, they were only met with static in response.
"One sec. She's probably...She's still there." Dustin scratched his face awkwardly. "Suzie, this is Dustin. Do you copy? Over."
Max sighed heavily, crossing her arms and Lucas and Will stared annoyed at their friend.
"I'm sure she's there. It's just-" The Henderson boy tried to come up with something.
"Yeah." Lucas nodded along sarcastically.
"Like, maybe she's just busy, or-"
"Right."
"It's around dinner time." Sam suggested with a small shrug, just trying to help her little brothers case.
"Mmm." Lucas raised his eyebrows at her.
Max nodded quickly. "Yup."
Dustin shrugged, holding the device up to his face again. "Suzie, this is Dustin. Do you copy? Over. Suzie...do you copy, this is Dustin. Over."

The group still sat on the hill as the sky grew darker and darker. Sam was even laid out in the grass, watching the sky with even breaths. Lucas and Max laid with their head resting against a bag, and the blonde was pretty sure Will had fallen asleep.
"Suzie! This is your Dustin. Do you copy? Over." The Henderson boy repeated again and again. "Suzie-"
"Dustin, come on!" Max finally blurted out. "She's not there."
"She's there, alright? She'll pick up." Dustin protested firmly.
Will say up on his elbows quickly. "Maybe Cerebro doesn't work."
"Or maybe Suzie doesn't exist." Lucas finally spoke his mind.
"She exists!" Dustin scoffed his betrayal.
"She's a genius and she's hotter than Phoebe Cates? No girl is that perfect." Lucas reminded. Max didn't miss a beat, sitting up quickly and cutting her eyes at him.
"Is that so?" She crossed her arms expectantly. Lucas sat up with wide eyes as he realized what he'd said.
"I mean, you're perfect." The Sinclair boy tried to backtrack. "Like, per-perfect in your own way. In your special-your own special way."
Max began laughing, calming her boyfriends nerves. "Relax, I was teasing. I'm obviously perfect and Dustin's obviously lying." The redhead stood holding her hand down. "Come on, Don Juan."
"Where are you going?" Dustin sighed heavily.
"Home." Max glanced back as she and Lucas left in a jog down the hill. Sam glanced to Will.
"I guess it's just us and you, Byers." The blonde laid back down.
Will stood, glancing at his watch with a guilty look. "Uhm, it's late. Sorry. Maybe tomorrow we can play D&D. Or something fun, like we used to?"
"Yeah, sure." Dustin smiled tightly.
"Welcome home." Will waved before bouncing down the tall grass. Dustin turned to his sister like she would get up and go too.
"Uhm, no?" Sam shook her head like Dustin was crazy. "I'm your sister, you can't get rid of me."
"Okay." The Henderson boy smiled brighter. The blonde sat up, sliding over to the contraption.
"You wanna tell me how you managed to build this bad boy?" She tried to take his mind off it, but a sudden distorted chatter rippled through the speaker. Dustin tripped, falling to the ground heavily.
"Shit, shit." He grabbed for the speaker. "Suzie? Suzie, is that you?"
The only answer they got was the distorted sound of a man speaking in another language. Sam furrowed her eyebrows, looking up at her brother quickly. He turned up the volume, listening intensely.
"Do you know Russian?" He glanced up to his sister hopefully. She gave him a look that read, Are you serious right now?
"No, Dustin. I don't know Russian." The blonde spoke in a deadpan. "When have I ever made mention of knowing Russian?"
"Whatever, Sam." The Henderson boy grumbled. "Do you know absolutely anyone who could know Russian?"
Sam was about to dismiss him when a thought crossed her mind. "You know, I actually might."
