Author's POV
Prom was the most important time of the year for every girl in high school who was on their last year. Nani and May had went dress shopping together and enjoyed every second of it. It did kind of mend their friendship a bit, who knew dress shopping could bring two best friends together again. While Nani and May had worked on their bond, so did Deauni and Dc. They were coparenting so well you'll think that they'll be getting back together that wasn't the case though. They decided to become friends for the sake of their child. The friendship was going so good Dc even invited Deauni to be on his arm for the prom. They agreed that they were only going as friends nothing more.
Everyone pulled up to the venue in their foreign rentals and walked inside. The theme was beautiful from the lights, the drapes, the carpet, the snow machine and even the picture booth. It was actually like being in a winter wonderland. While each student admired the decor of the venue, Jaylin and Nani were sitting at their table admiring each other.
"You look beautiful tonight" he told her
"Thank you baby, you look good too" they kissed and held each other hand
That's until May came walking up to the table with Jay as her "date".
"Oh lord, not you brought Jay crazy ass" Nani said
"Girl don't start with me" he replied
"Can y'all hush?" May said
"She star-" Jay began to say but was cut off by Nani
"Is that Deauni? WITH DC?!!?" She said shocked
"It surely is, what her skinny white ass doing with him?" Jay asked
"That's not our business, anybody want something to drink?" May replied trying to change the subject
"I can use a patron shot right now" commented Jay
"Boy please, Nani?" May questioned
"No I'm okay" she replied
"Jaylin you good?" May asked
"Yeah I'm straight gang"
While May was getting herself a drink, the rest of them just talked amongst each other. Meanwhile across the room, was Deauni standing next to Dc.
"Why the hell everybody eyeing us?" Deauni questioned irritated
"Man fuck them jits, let's go sit down" he replied
"Yeah you right"
They walked over to a empty table and just sung along to the music that was playing.
"Hold on Dee, let me go holler at my dawg right quick" Dc said
"Take your time" Deauni replied annoyed
Deauni wasn't feeling the vibes at all, she hated loud and crowded place but since Dc asked she couldn't resist. It was the least she could do considering everything she put Dc through.
While Dc was chopping it up with one of his teammates Deauni begin to get thirsty. So she made her way to the beverage table. She was grabbing the last orange soda out of the cooler when a big hand covered hers gunning for the same soda.
"My fault, you can have it" he voiced
Deauni slowly turned around and it was a tall, dark skin boy with a low boy in a white and black suit.
"Ugh...umm thank you" she stuttered
She found him very appealing which caused her to stutter in the first place.
"No problem mama's, you go here?" He asked her
"Umm yeah, I'm a junior though. I'm just a plus one." She replied
" oh yeah? Same, Ima plus one too. My sister asked me to escort her since she ain't have nobody to come with." He told her
"Oh, so you don't go here? I knew I never saw you before. What school you go to?"
"Thomas Jefferson High, I'm on the team there and they was the best fit for me" he responded
"Oh that make sense, I never got your name though" she said
"It's Jalen, yours?"
"Deauni, everybody call me Dee though"
"Alright Dee, who you here with tonight?" He asked her
Her eyes gazed around the room before she answered the question.
"My child's father" she said in a embarrassed tone
"Oh so you gotta baby?" He asked
"Yeah, two of them actually but anyways it was nice talking to you...I have to g-" before she could storm off Dc was already where she was standing
"What the fuck you doing?" Dc questioned as he snatched her by her dress
" yo calm down, we was just having a civil conversation" Jalen butted in
"Was I talking to you Bruh? I wasn't, find you some business boss" Dc barked back
"I'm fine Jalen, it was nice meeting you. Dc unhand me right now!" Deauni sternly said as she pushed him off of her
She walked back over to the table and grabbed her belongings and stormed toward the exit.
Dc was right behind her with the car keys in his hand.
"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY?!?? Are you dumb?!!?" Deauni shouted
"YO CALM YO ASS DOWN" Dc yelled back
"NO! FUCK YOU!" She barked
"You already did last night!" He replied
"YEAH I KNOW BIGGEST MISTAKE I BEEN MAKING! I KNEW FUCKING YOU AGAIN WOULD BE A BIG DISASTER!" She said
"NAH EVERYTHING COULD'VE BEEN GRAVY IF YOU WASN'T SMILING IN THAT NIGGA FACE!"
"ARE YOU STUPID? YOU WAS LETTING ALL TYPES OF BITCHES DANCE ON YOU! I DIDN'T PRESS YOU ABOUT THAT DID I? YEAH NIGGA! DON'T GET QUIET NOW! I SAW YO HOE ASS! MAYBE I SHOULD'VE SWALLOWED SO I WOULDN'T BE STUCK WITH YO DUMB ASS!" After she said that Dc came toward her and started to choke her, cutting off her circulation. As she struggled to breathe, Jalen came running to her rescue.
"YO WHAT THE FUCK YOU DOING?" Jalen said as he pushed Dc off of Deauni
"YO WHO THE FUCK IS YOU?!" Dc said as he approached Jalen
"Back up out my face Bruh!" Jalen told Dc
"Or what fuck boy?" Dc teased
Jalen didn't say anything he just simply punched Dc in his face. Dc grabbed his face from the punch and tried to swing on Jalen but Jalen caught it and punched him again. This time Dc was on the ground knocked unconscious.
"Come on" Jalen told Deauni
She took his hand and they went to his car.
While that chaos was going on in the parking lot , people were still inside enjoying their prom. Only a few people caught what happened at the beverage table but most of them were blinded sided by a good time.
As the night went on May, Jay, Nani and Jaylin were all on the dance floor dancing to the upbeat songs. When the Dj slowed down the tracks, Jaylin and Nani got closer and started to slow dance. Meanwhile Jay and May went back to the table and just looked at all the couples.
"Guess who?" A voice said behind Jay as they covered his eyes
Jay didn't say anything he just moved his hands from his eyes and turned around.
"I knew it was you!" Jay said as he hugged Brandon
"Of course baby" Brandon replied as he kissed Jay on the lips
"How did you know I was going to be here?" Jay asked him
"May told me" he responded
"Awwwww May thank you so much!"
"You wanna dance?" Brandon asked
"Yeah let's go" Brandon took Jay to the dance floor and they danced together for what felt like all night.
May sat at the table alone just admiring her friends enjoying their significant other's company. She thought about what it would've been like if Kendall would've still been here. She didn't want to think too long though because it would've made her sad and she didn't want to ruin a happy night.
While the night for the three was coming to an end Jalen and Deauni were in the car together.
"I'm sorry that had to be our first impression" Deauni told him
"It's all good baby girl, when I saw him trying you I knew I had to handle that" he replied
"Thank you, you didn't have to"
"I did but where you stay?" He asked her
"Here...I'll put my address in your phone" she told him
"Bet"
Jalen had dropped Deauni home and they ended the night with a friendly hug. Nothing more or less, Jalen didn't bother getting her number because she seemed to have a lot going on. Which was very true. As for Jay,May,Nani, Brandon and Jaylin they ended their night eating pancakes and waffles at ihop. They had the time of their life in ihop just giggling and sharing embarrassing stories.
While everybody else had a successful and safe night, Dc woke up from his knock out about 30 minutes after the incident. He got up from the ground and just drove home, it had been a long and wild night for him. Perhaps prom didn't go as well for everybody some folks got the better end of the bargain. The year was a long and crazy one but some of them were ending it alive. As for Drew, they pulled the plug on him, no one knew but his blood relatives and they planned to keep it that way until further notice.
Nobody knew what was to come but summer was going to be unusually different for everyone...
