The Family Business

Chapter 23

Gerard's POV

As I wake up I hear a pounding at my door. I check the time and I see it is only six in the morning. I rub the sleep out of my eyes before I check to see if Frank was woken up too. But as I looked for at the other side of my king sized bed I hear quiet snores. The pounding continues so I walk closer to the door while telling the other person I was about to open it. When I opened the door I was surprised to see Pete standing on the other side of the door holding his tablet.

"I apologize Boss, but I found out some stuff about Mikey." He looked at me with a mix of hurt, anger, and tiredness all over his face.

"Did you get any sleep last night?" I ask Pete.

"No I couldn't sleep last night. So instead I started tracking Mikey's whereabouts and I found out a couple of things. I wanted to tell you privately first before calling a meeting." He says while locking eyes on his feet.

"Okay come in and we'll go over everything, but I have to wake up Frank first." Pete follows me further in closing the door behind him.

I walk over to Frank's sleeping body and I gently shake him awake. He opens his eyes and looks at me and then looks around.

"What's going on?" Frank says to me while sitting up in bed. The blankets that were covering him slip down and pool around his waste.

"Pete found some stuff out about my brother and he wanted to tell us first before calling a meeting." I say while moving to sit next to him. Pete stands at the end of our bed looking at us making sure that we are ready before he starts.

"Before I start I would like to apologize for waking you both up so early, but this couldn't wait." He says this while logging into his table and pulling something up. He flips the tablet around so we can see and he shows us a picture of recent Mikey. I quickly move and grab the tablet away from Pete to get a closer look. Tears build up in my eyes as I look at this picture. It's like seeing a ghost honestly.  Seeing a picture makes me realize how much I actually have missed my brother these past few years.

"I found out that Mikey has become the boss of a rival family. This family is based in California so that's why we have never crossed paths with him. That and because he changed his last name to Smith and changed his look." Pete said staring at me. It honestly looked like he was willing himself not to cry and I don't blame him.

"Has he really been in California this whole time? I thought he would be in a different country or something. I never thought that he would be in the same country of us if he was still alive." I said finally bringing my eyes away from the picture. "Is there anything else?"

"Yes, my sources say that he is trying to expand his family and he is trying to set up shop in one of our territories." Pete says while looking from me to Frank.

Frank grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze, "What do you want to do about this? I will follow your lead on this one."

"I am not to sure but I do know that we need to have a meeting. Pete, gather everyone up and meet us in commons room." I nod to Pete and without another word he gently grabs the tablet from me and walks out. 

I look and Frank not wanting to leave this moment, but duty calls. I start to roll out of bed and get dressed and Frank follows suite. As we leave our room I say under my breath, "Looks like it's time for a family reunion."
