Shinsou sat at his desk, stiff as he thought about his bag sitting next to his feet. Stuffed inside his bag was the cat from the outside grounds, currently curled up and purring as it layed in the bag and admired him from the open crack for it to breathe. Shinsou was more surprised that the cat complied with hiding in his bag than the fact that no student has questioned him.
He always believed cats were intelligent creatures, but this particular animal's actions had continued to surprise him. Moreover, he was surprised he was compelled to shove a cat into his school bag.
His foot tapped against the floor, his teacher's words irritating him more than usual. With the animal in his bag, he couldn't hide his tension. A few times he glanced down at the surprisingly content cat that looked to be smiling up at him. Occasionally, the cat would jostle around in the bag, but no one seemed to notice.
The cat made his school day more bearable as it dozed away in each class. It didn't make a sound, or destroy any of his school work as it hid. The only time it caused problems was when he had to go to lunch.
Shinsou waited until he was the only one left in the classroom before he pulled the cat out of his bag. He set the cat down on the desk as it very loudly purred and rubbed against him.
"You're a very strange one," he said, petting the cat's head. He hummed for a moment, then picked up the cat under it's front legs. "You're a female?"
When he said that, the cat meowed then wiggled out of his grasp. Once back on the desk, she curled her tail around her hunched legs and brushed her face with her front paws.
"How cute," he said, resting his head on one hand. "What should I call you?"
The cat continued to purr and rubbed her head against his chin. She dragged her back and tail under his chin as she turned to look at him again, her eyes wide with admiration.
Shinsou has never met a cat so calm and open to affection. When they first met, she didn't shy away from his touch and now she even trusted him so much as to allow him to hold her in his bag.
"You must be someone's cat already," he said to her, massaging her head. "I should probably let you back out soon."
The cat meowed in response, further pushing her head against his hand.
"Hmm. I really can't keep you, kitty." He lowered his head to touch his forehead to the cat's. "I would be making your owner worry."
The cat placed her front paws on his head and kissed his forehead with her nose. She lovingly pressed her face against his and continued to give him nose kisses.
Shinsou grinned at the affections, causing the cat to stop and stare at him for a moment. "This school is pretty separated from any living district and you don't have any tags... You are probably a stray, right?"
The cat meowed, turning her head down as if to agree. Shinsou patted her presented head.
"I could take you home and take care of you."
The cat looked back at him with wide eyes and eagerly mewled. She jumped back into Shinsou's school bag, still meowing. He reached his hand into his bag to pet her.
"It's almost as if you can understand me," he chuckled. "Hmm. How about I call you, Yuuei?"
She licked his hand.
