When he saw Y/n sitting on a bench outside of U.A. in casual clothes, Shinsou almost exploded. It should have been impossible for her to have the time to change and pick him up.
He stomped over to her and grabbed her shoulder. "How are you here?" he grumbled, rushing her away from the school before someone he knew could see her embarrassing affections. He could smell her familiar body spray.
"I got out of school early," she grinned. "Why are you shoving me?"
"I don't want you to draw any attention to me," he harshly said under his breath, checking over his shoulders for anyone he recognized. Figuring they were out of sight, he let go of her and wiped his hand on his blazer. "They already don't take me seriously," he muttered.
Y/n stared at him, her eyes turning towards the ground. "I get it," she said, putting her hands in her pocket. She shrugged her shoulders, "You want to hear why I got out early?"
Shinsou raised a brow, not sure of what to expect. He shoved his hand into his pockets as well and continued walking.
Staying to his side, Y/n matched his pace. She took a deep breath and kept her eyes focused on the ground. "I got suspended."
"What?" Shinsou said, looking over to her. Although eccentric, she didn't look like a delinquent. But, she did have after school detention before because of that kid. "What happened?"
"I just got into a fight with the guy from the other day," she shrugged again. She dragged her feet, a heat growing in her face. She didn't want Shinsou to think any less of her, but she knows he doesn't like secrets. She'll tell him anything he wants to hear, unless it's about Yuuei. "I... even used my Quirk. My teacher suspended me from school for a week and I have to submit a written apology to the kid I fought with."
He frowned, remembering how she told him about that kid's relentless harassment when she was brainwashed. His jaw clenched at the idea that she would be the one apologizing. Walking a bit faster, he grumbled, "What is his punishment?"
Y/n stayed right next to him. "Oh... He just has detention again."
"That's bullshit," he grumbled, not looking at her.
She laughed, subconsciously walking closer to him. "Yeah! I guess it is..."
Shinsou's face grew warm, making him frown even more. "What are you laughing at?"
"I just wasn't expecting you to be so blunt," she continued. "But, I appreciate you getting upset on my behalf."
"It's just unfair."
"I know..." she mumbled, her unrestrained laughter dissipating.
Out of ideas to continue the conversation, the two stayed quiet. The sounds of the city around them replaced their words. Shinsou was grateful that Y/n gave up on talking. The sick feeling growing in his stomach didn't help his lack of social interest.
Walking next to him, Y/n was dueling her conscious thought. While she wanted to get to know Shinsou, she understood that he was more moody than usual. He often deflected all conversation starts, but this time his body was tense. His lip curled up in genuine disgust. She could tell this was unlike his embarrassed reaction that she would draw from him. He looked just as bitter as when they first met.
As they approached the road where their routes separated, Y/n ignored her better senses.
"Shinsou, can I walk you to your house again?" she asked, minding her tone as to not sound too forceful.
He looked at her, then sighed. "Whatever..."
Her face flushed at the slight acceptance. He always said "no". This "whatever" was basically a "maybe." A "why not." An indirect agreement.
"Really?" she exclaimed. Her hands clapped together. "You would be so kind, letting me walk you home!"
Shinsou kept walking down his street. "I said whatever," he muttered.
Y/n followed without hesitation. "This is exciting. We're becoming better friends by the day."
Feeling a cold shiver run down his spine, Shinsou grimaced. He really was acting like a friend: walking home from school, talking about each other's days, and listening to her problems. His mother's words haunted him, causing him to think about friendship much more than he wished to.
He was fine without friends to distract him. Getting into the hero course was what he needed to focus on. Why does L/n Y/n have to be so bothersome?
