You didn't want to think about what happened, but it was all you could think about. His lips right near yours, your hot breaths mixing in so perfectly with his, his hands on you. You couldn't stop reminiscing what that almost kiss felt like. You weren't able to ignore the regret. It tormented you, your cowardice and inability to just admit it.

Just tell him you love him.

You almost did, if it weren't for the god damn turbulence he would've known by now and the big secret would be out. You wouldn't have to stress about it anymore, maybe he'd brutally reject you or you'd finally know what his lips felt like, what he tasted like.

All of you were walking through the bustling streets of Hong Kong and neither you or Jotaro said a single word since you'd gotten off the life boat. Not even as he gently rubbed ointment on your wound and wrapped the bandage around your shoulder did he utter a single thing. All he would do is occasionally looking into your eyes with his eyebrows ever so slightly drawn apart.

Neither of you were great at communicating so that was how that went.

How Joseph managed to pull off the safe landing was jarring to everyone alike but nobody wanted to question it. He survived yet another plane crash. He brought just as much good luck as the bad. You glanced over to where the tall elderly man was at the phone booth, settling some transportation deal while the rest of the group took a look around the hectic city.

"Hey big guy! You guys aren't from around here are you? How about some rice porridge?" a man called to Jotaro from a food stand.

You felt your stomach grumble just from the sound of something to eat.

"Food..."'

Kakyoin gave you an acknowledging gaze and looked towards the others.

"A delicacy to the people here...I'll have one bowl, the popular way."

You were practically drooling as he spoke because the aroma of the food was too inviting to ignore.

"Oh oh! Me too please!" you shouted desperately, beaming at the vendor.

Avdol raised his hand and began to speak as well.

"In that case I'll have-"

However, your hunger was rendered inevitable when Joseph came up to the group following his rather hostile phone call.

"Hey!"

You whipped your head around with horror in your widened eyes to face Joseph. You were silently pleading with him to let you eat, because god you were starving. You just wanted to eat.

Please, please, please-

"What!? You guys think we have time to eat?! We're going to my old favorite, you can stuff your faces when we get there." the man shouted, his words practically bringing tears to your eyes.

"But!"

You attempted to protest but the man from the stand interrupted your desperate cry.

"Hey gramps! I know you'd be interested in some hot cola!" he shouted, attempting to cajole the elderly man but everyone in the group knew he would fail miserably.

Joseph raised an eyebrow, letting out a scoff as he looked at the confident man.

"Hot cola?! That's blasphemy! Everyone knows its supposed to be cold!" he huffed, turning away and looking at you.

Your lips parted to protest, your eyes drawn apart in absolute apprehension as he waved at you to follow him.

We're leaving. Come (Y/n)."

You looked back longingly at the man, the aroma only making your sadness increase with every fleeting second.

"But my rice porridge!"

Your shouting was brutally disregarded by everyone but him.
Jotaro sighed, swiftly walking right up to you. Your heart fell right into your stomach when his fingertips grazed over your palm with his mesmerizing eyes boring into yours. His fingers slipped in between yours and he took a hołd of your hand in his.

"JoJo?"

You uttered his name in a quiet voice as you looked up at him with a furrow in your brow. He brushed his thumb gently over your skin to which your heart skipped a beat.

"Come with me okay?" he said in a quieter voice to which he pulled you along behind him.

"JoJo! (Y/n)!"

Joseph called after the both of you but Jotaro was simply ignoring him like he usually did, while you gazed at your hand linked with his and smiled gently to yourself. You were both in front of the stand once again and now you took your place beside Jotaro.

"The bowl of rice porridge."

He made his request but even as he did he didn't release your hand from his grasp.

"Coming right up." the man replied with a smile.

~

"Thank you..." you uttered to him while the both of you walked side by side.

You were a good ways behind the group and Jotaro kept his pace matching to yours with his hands stuffed in his pockets. You happily munched away on your rice porridge, gushing not only over the delectable food but also the fact that he went back and got it for you.

"(Y/n) just promise me one thing..." he said suddenly, his voice cutting through your thoughts.

You stopped eating and looked over at him.

"Yeah?"

Jotaro didn't look at you as he spoke. His stern expression remained glued ahead.

"Please promise you'll be careful." he spoke, his voice low and seemingly strained.

"But I-"

You started to reply but he abruptly stopped, turned and placed his hands on your shoulders. Your voice trailed off and you looked into his turbulent blue eyes which were searching yours.

"(Y/n). Please. Knowing you're safe is the only thing keeping me sane right now." he uttered in a voice that was just above a whisper.

"I..."

Your heart was freaking out in your rib cage and your mind couldn't get over the close proximity and how much he cared.

He cared so much and you appreciated that with everything you had.

"I promise I'll do my best... but I want you to promise the same. Okay?" you finally replied.

A gentle smile graced your face and you could see his gaze relax as well as his grip. His mind was swirling with so many various thoughts while his chest flowed with emotions nobody knew he possessed as well.

Desperation, worry, fear, guilt.

Love.

The desperation to keep you safe, the worry because he knew damn well you'd be reckless. The fear that something would happen to you and there wouldn't be anything he could do about it.

Guilt because he knew the promise he was about to make wasn't a genuine one like he wished it could be.

"Okay."

In the end, he'd be as reckless as he has to if it meant protecting the girl he loved.

"Pinky swear?" you asked him.

A bright smile graced your face while you looked up at him. You lifted your hand and offered your pinky. His gaze was deep and meaningful while his eyes searched yours.

"Are you serious?" he asked in attempt to tease but his voice wavered with seriousness.

"As serious as can be." you replied.

I'm so sorry, (Y/n).

Protecting you comes first.

"I swear (Y/n)."

Always.
