The buzzing started quietly, mixing with the rhythmic hum of the engines.
Then it grew louder.
You jerked up with a start, the air heavily littered with an unbearable discomfort.
Something felt deeply wrong.
Beside you, Jotaro was already awake and alert.
His fingers were still gently interlaced with yours, his thumb brushing against your knuckle before stopping altogether.
He'd heard it too.
You turned your head. When your eyes flickered up, you saw his flawless profile as he looked ahead, his expression pensive.
No...
The cabin was dark. Most of the passengers remained asleep, their heads resting against windows or slumped forward in their seats.
You followed the sound.
Your stomach dropped.
No, no...
A beetle.
And a very large one at that.
It drifted through the aisle, its wings producing a low, mechanical buzz that made your skin crawl.
Anything but a bug.
Anything but being stuck in an airplane with a fucking bug.
"Jotaro..." you whispered.
His head snapped toward where you were looking.
Without a second to waste, he stood.
The others were already awake.
Joseph's eyes narrowed.
Avdol's expression darkened.
Kakyoin tracked the insect without blinking.
"What the fuck is that?" you muttered.
Joseph folded his arms.
"Avdol."
Avdol gave a small nod.
The answer was enough.
Your pulse quickened.
It wasn't a bug.
It was a Stand.
The beetle drifted lazily through the aisle.
Then just like that, it was as if it vanished into thin air.
Oh god. We lost sight of it.
You glanced around, frantically raking your eyes over the inconveniently dim space of the plane.
"Where did it go?" you asked under your breath, your voice wavering.
Nobody answered, and the cabin was starting to feel smaller.
Jotaro's gaze swept across the rows of passengers.
Then he looked at you.
"(Y/n)."
His hand found your shoulder.
"Stay close. Don't you dare even thinking of moving away from me."
It was not a request, his voice stern and simultaneously wavering. It was a command.
I did not argue. It was not the time for being stubborn.
You nodded.
He stepped forward without waiting for a response, placing himself between you and the darkness ahead.
