Chapter 12: "Sunshine"

The next morning, Aether was the first of the two to wake up.
His back and legs were sore from the other night.
"Ugh.. Why did Xiao have to go so rough.."
he stretched his arms and yawned as he was still trying to wake up.
He looks beside him. Xiao was awake.
"Oh! How long have you been awake!?"
"..a minute or two."
It seems like Xiao was trying to wake up still.
Aether could visibly see the light flush of red on Xiao's face.
He smiled and hugged Xiao.
"..How would you feel about going to the Lantern Rite today?"
Aether sprung up.
"oh shoot!! I forgot it was today!!"
He quickly sprung out of bed, and headed straight for the closet. He rummage for a moment, then pulled out a nice outfit.
"Come on Xiao! you need to get ready too!"
Xiao let out a small chuckle, then got up.
He walked behind Aether, wrapping his arms around the blonde.
"Ack-! Xiao.. don't surprise me like that!"
"sorry.. i just wanted to hold you"
Aether's face because a bright pink.
"..I-I'll go make us breakfast."

"Ah, im so exited!!!"
The young couple was now on the bus, headed to the festival.
Xiao stared at Aether, he was glad that Aether was happy.
"We're gonna have so much fun! i just know it!"
"..yes, of course we will."
Xiao grew a slight red blush on his cheeks. Seeing Aether excited made him very happy.

It was the afternoon now, yet they still haven't seen the infamous tree.
"Do you know when the attraction is going to open for the tree?"
"no.. all the website said is that it'll be opened today."
"Hmm.. i guess we'll just have to come back tomorrow.."
Hearing Aether say that made Xiao feel a bit guilty.
He'd been wanting to bring Aether here ever since he learned about this place, yet it's already been a few hours and no sign of the tree anywhere.
"..I'm sorry, Aether.."
"huh? oh nono! you don't have to apologize!! it's okay, really! it's just kind of a bummer."
Just then, over the speakers spoke a voice.
"Hello guests, the Dragon-Queller tree will be opening shortly."
Xiao and Aether looked at each other. Aether's eyes immediately lit up.
"Xiao did you hear that!? It's gonna open soon!!"
Relief ran through Xiao's body.
"I'm glad we get to see it together."
He smiled, and Aether smiled back.

As they sat down on a bench, staring at the beautiful Dragon-Queller tree, a small memory popped up in their heads.

There, stood Aether. His dress flowed and his hair was dancing with the wind. Xiao's face became red.
Aether slowly walked down the aisle. Step after step. Coming closer. Xiao's heart was racing. Aether was as bright as the sun. Eventually, he was in front of Xiao, smiling.

Aether leaned his head onto Xiao's shoulder.
"Thank you for being with me again."
Xiao looked down at Aether, a little confused.
"..me too, i'm glad i get to spend my life with you."
Xiao kissed Aether's forehead as a token of his appreciation.
"Look Xiao! The tree is glowing!"
Xiao looked up. The tree was glowing like the moonlight. So bright, and so beautiful.
"It's pretty.. just like you."
Aether giggled.
"Let's get back home before it gets too cold."
"Ah, you're right. It has been getting a bit cold out recently."
As they both got up from the bench, Aether pulled in Xiao for a kiss, and took a photo.
"Just for memory~"
Aether smiled and took Xiao's hand go home.
