We got to the gates and couldn't get in because of a containment spell. I said "Josie." she laid her hand on the gate and siphoned the spell. Once inside Josie said "Lizzie?" Hope said "I'll check the library." we headed for the library and Josie went off in another direction. Dr. Saltzman said, "What are you two doing here?" Hope said "Oh, my God. You scared me." he said, "Dorian was supposed to keep you away." Hope said "He tried. He lost. Ember won. But here. kill Gargoyles. He thought you could translate it." Dr. Saltzman said "Gaulish. Son of a..." I said "So are we on our own, or did the Gauls provide clear instruction?" he said "In a nutshell, it says hit it hard, repeat as needed." we heard a roar and Hope said "Is that...?" he said "Yeah. Listen, it poisoned Lizzie. I'm guessing, to get my attention. Then it attacked me and took the knife." I said "The knife? The dragon knife?"

Hope said "And you're still breathing?" he said, "Oh, I have a theory about that." Hope said "Well, save it, because we had to take down that containment spell to get inside the school, meaning our monster can get out." he said "A containment spell? Lizzie wanted to make sure whatever attacked her didn't escape into the world. Good girl. All right, well, guess we better find it... before it makes the evening news. So how'd you both take the containment spell down?" Josie came into the hallway and said "They didn't. I did. And I have questions." she took the ax from him and we headed for the library. Dr. Saltzman said "Emma? Emma. She put her finger in front of her lips and shut the door again, the gargoyle jumped down the stairs right in front of Hope and me. She rolled out of the way which got its attention, I stepped in front of her and as it went to stab me Dr. Saltzman screamed "No!" and jumped in front of us. Josie screamed "Dad! No!

Hope and I stood up and grabbed hands, Hope said "Josie, help us." she said "How?" and took my waiting hand I said "Just repeat after us. Fluctus inpulsa." the three of us chanted "Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa!" it disintegrated and Dr. Saltzman said "Nice job." Josie turned on him "How could you jump in front of them like that? You could have died, Dad." he said "Honey, I knew it wouldn't kill me, because my research said so..." Josie walked away to help Lizzie so he followed her, Emma made sure all the little kids got taken to their room.

We walked into the office where Dr. Saltzman was and Hope said "How's Lizzie?" he said "Recovering quickly, thanks to her sister." I said "So, how did you know the gargoyle wouldn't kill you?" he said "Gargoyles are protectors. And folklore tells a tale of a gargoyle who once protected a small settlement in France whose villagers revered a powerful relic. A knife." Hope said "Our knife?" he nodded "As the story goes, the gargoyle loved the humans he protected so much, that he vowed never to harm humanity. Instead, he chose to fight evil on their behalf." I sighed "Us being the evil ones in this scenario. Josie, Lizzie..." he agreed "In its mind, yes. I realized when it didn't hurt me before... it saw me as the one who needed protection." Hope said "I'm not sure that knowing that will make them feel any better." he said, "I should get back to the girls." Hope said "Wait. One more thing. You're always telling us that we need to work together. To put our own feelings aside for the school, for the community. I know we haven't always listened to you with that kind of stuff, but I'm starting to think that it's actually pretty good advice, so... maybe you should take it. Because if you want us and the twins to get along, for them to be happy, for the school to be safe... These secrets are gonna tear us all apart."

He called an emergency meeting of the upper class and said "If you'd asked me a week ago... I would have told you I knew the difference between myth and fact. I would have said that supernaturals were limited to the species under this roof. I would have said that folklore and fairy tales were just stories. But I can no longer say that any of that's true. Because just a few days ago, we were confronted by the existence of a dragon. And then, today, our campus was terrorized by a gargoyle come to life. Some of us... were forced to fight. We won. This time. They were drawn here by a knife that went missing earlier this week. And for whatever reason, these creatures consider us to be the enemy. In their minds, we're the villains because we won't give them what they want. We don't even know why they want it. But we're gonna find out. I can't say for sure what their true intentions are. I can't say there won't be more attacks. That's why I'm telling you this. To warn you. To ask you to look out for each other. To do what's best for one another. Because we're more than just a school, we're a family. And we will stand together, we will fight together, and we will win or lose this battle together, no matter what comes next."

The following day we had another meeting, Dr. Saltzman said "Given our recent influx of monsters, Sheriff Donovan and I have decided we need to take drastic action. Please give him your full attention." Matt said "Like Dr. Saltzman was saying, local girls Dana Lilien and Sasha Stoteraux didn't come home last night. Dana sometimes skips town for a few days to party, but this is a first for Sasha." Dr. Saltzman said "Thank you, Sheriff Donovan. Now while the knife is away with Dorian and things are quiet on his end, it won't hurt to assume the worst. Now, I'll need a few of you to volunteer to go to Mystic Falls High with Ember under the guise of an exchange program meant to improve relations between our schools, which, unfortunately, is necessary, given recent events. Now, I permit you to compel them, to gather materials for locator spells, because any information we can get will make all the difference." I stood when my name was said, Lizzie stood up and said "Well, I guess that I can set aside my differences with Dana for a day because that is what heroes do. So... I volunteer as tribute." Hope said, "She battles one gargoyle, and suddenly, she's Mother Teresa." Kaleb stood up "I'm in." MG said, "I'm in, too." Hope stood up next to me "I'd like to help."

After the meeting, Hope and I had a training session with Dr. Saltzman who said "Who are you, and what have you done with Hope Mikaelson?" Hope said "I never got to go to a real school. I've always wanted to know what it's like to be normal for a day instead of being a tribrid loner. And why is it so surprising for me to go but not for Em?" He said "Yeah, well, that's a bed you made for yourself. And it's surprising because you volunteered, I didn't give Em the same choice. I told her she was going." Hope said, "Not looking for a social lecture." I said "So, what's your plan with Landon? Does he, like, go here now?" he said "Why? Are you both still thinking about murdering him? " I said "Yes." he said "Well tough 'Cause there's a knife that sat dormant for centuries that started attracting mythical creatures the day he took possession of it. I'd say there's a lot we need to learn about him." Hope said "And then what? We kick him to the curb?" he said, "Then we decide to do what's best for the people of this school." I sighed as Hope said "Any idea what to do with him while we search for missing mean girls?" he said, "As a matter of fact, yes."

We got off the bus at Mystic Falls High and heard the cheerleaders "Mystic Falls, we got claws. On the field, you'll hear us roar. Rawr!" As we were gathering around Landon ran into Lizzie he said "Sorry. Sorry." the football jocks were laughing as Lizzie said, "I was making an entrance, mophead." Landon said "Sorry. I just had a... a flashback to my freshman year here." Lizzie said, "Girls are missing, so get your wedgie trauma in check or leave." Hope said, "He's fine, now let it go." Lizzie said "Okay, here's the deal. Landon, you talk to any of the people you still know from when you went here. Hope, you try to not deliberately alienate the entire student body while the rest of us save the world." I said "This isn't a contest, Lizzie." she said "You're right. It's a mission for a hero and her league of... whatevers." Kaleb said "Yeah. Screw that. I work alone." Lizzie said "MG, I need your compulsion skill. Would you like to be the Robin to my Batwoman?" MG said "Actually, Batwoman doesn't have a Robin. She..." Lizzie said "Metaphor, nerd. Let's go." Kaleb, MG, and Lizzie took off leaving me and Hope with Landon.
