The Mikaelson Twins Return

Community Service

We buried the dragon and made it back to the car to see only Ric. Hope said, "Where are they?" Dr. Saltzman said "Gone. I found these on the windshield when I got back." he handed Hope and I folded up pieces of paper. I opened it up and saw this note.

Dear Ember,

I overheard you and Hope and your wrong you know. I do like you, you are beautiful and sweet and protective. I understand why you don't like Landon, he hurt your sister by lying to her. I know you would do anything for Hope so I want you to understand why I had to leave. I couldn't let Landon go, he is my brother... not by blood but my brother nonetheless. I hope we meet again Emberlyn Mikaelson, so I can take you on a date.

I folded it up and put it in my pocket, climbed into the car, and we headed home. The next day in class Dorian had us in a circle holding hands he said "All right, gather together. Chain spells are about the fluid movement of energy from witch to witch. Where's Penelope Park?" Lizzie said "Um, lady cramps, Mr. Williams." he said, "Sorry I asked. A disharmonious group makes for an uneven flow." making us laugh a paper floated in and Josie said, "Uh-oh who's in trouble with the headmaster?" Hope said, "Probably the people who started a rumble with the local high school." Dorian said, "Lizzie Saltzman, Josie Saltzman, Hope Mikaelson, and Baby makes four off you go." We all headed to the library which is where he was. Lizzie said, "This makes no sense dad, why are we being punished?" Ric said, "Because you started a brawl at a charity football game that risked exposing what we really do here."

Lizzie said, "Well, you weren't mad last night." Ric said "I was mad last night, My undying love for my daughters just happened to trump my rage. I volunteered everyone in the game, so stop complaining. You're lucky that it's just community service and not actual jail time." I said "But if it was Jail time technically we could get out of it, I mean I managed when my mom had Freya lock me in." he glared at me and Hope smacked me as Lizzie said "Can I at least offer a rebuttal in my defense, if it pleases the court?" he gave her the floor and she said "First of all, I was provoked. My response was totally proportional considering the levels of abuse I was forced to endure. And secondly, if anyone should take the blame it's Josie." Josie said "What?" Lizzie said, "Im sorry, I totally cracked under cross but if you had just let Kaleb catch the ball..." Ric said, "You would still be in trouble."

Hope said, "But nice job throwing your sister under the bus." Josie said, "Thank you, Hope." Ric said, "The bus leaves in 10 minutes and I expect all four of you to be on it working together today, harmoniously and without drama, End of debate." Hope said "We weren't even at the game. Why are we being punished?" Ric looked at her and said, "You know what you both did." The girls left and once the door closed Hope said "Seriously?" He said "What part of what I said needs translated?" I said, "We want to help you with research." Ric said "Dorian has a master's degree in library science. I think the adults have it covered." Hope said, "That's not fair, you only play by the grownup rules when you don't need something from us." He said "I am spinning right now, Hope. And I cant drag either of you or anyone else into this until I figure out whats going on, okay? So right now I need you to be kids keeping a dragon-sized secret today until I get some answers, understood?"

As we got off the bus Lizzie said "So what did you do? My dad never gets mad at you two, you're the prodigal daughters. Must have been juicy." Hope said "Sorry no time for girl talk. Public service awaits." Dorian said "All right, listen up. It's a beautiful day. You got options: Litter, weeds, graffiti Your choice." Kaleb said, "It's bad enough that we get punished while the humans get a pass but there ain't no way in hell I'm picking up their garbage." Lizzie said, "I don't do trash either." Hope said, "I love trash as of this moment." Lizzie said, "Looks like we're scrubbing paint today." Josie said, "Dad told us to work together, okay, harmoniously." Lizzie said "Yeah, and he also said without drama, and I am feeling a rage attack coming on, so I will be remaining drama-free over by that wall of graffiti. Are you coming or not?" Josie came to my side and said "I don't know, Lizzie, is there another bus you want to throw me under?" Lizzie said "Fine, Daddy's girls. Anyone else? Get the lead out, MG." they all walked away and we started to pick up trash. 

Hope said "You have a future in waste management. Cleaning up messes is kind of my thing." Hope said, "Well, your sister is kind of a dumpster fire." Josie said "And yours isn't? Why do you always pick fights? We've known each other a decade and any time you have the chance, you poke." I said, "Hey leave me out of your fights." Hope said, "You guys do your fair share of poking." Josie said "Yeah, in retaliation to your pokes. And with you two spending so much time with my dad and keeping secrets..." I said, "We're not keeping secrets." Josie said "Oh, yeah? What happened when you went to go find Landon Kirby?" Hope said, "Nothing happened." Josie said "Something clearly did happen. Rafael never showed up at school, my dad was rattled, so why won't you just tell me?" Hope said "Because there's nothing to tell. Aah! Oh, my God. Aah! Ow." Hope stabbed herself in the foot with the poker. Josie said "Are you okay? I mean, what do I do?" I was too busy trying not to laugh as Hope said "Help me pull it out. I can heal myself. Pull it out. Ow!" Josie said "You poked yourself." and we all began to laugh then.

Josie said "Everything okay?" Hope said, "Yeah, I just think that that's making me a little bit nauseous." I said "Huh. Didn't see that coming." MG was making out with Dana, Josie said "It's simple math. MG has the hormones of a teenager and the impulse control of a preschooler. He also always goes for the wrong kinds of girls." Hope said, "Given my last crush, I can't judge." Josie said "Well, my last crush was actually Satan incarnate. That is, I guess unless you count..." I said "Who?"Josie said "Never mind. It really doesn't matter anymore. Lizzie has dibs." I said "Dibs?" Hope said "On Rafael? She always calls dibs. When's it gonna be your turn?" Josie said, "It just is what it is." Hope said "Right, well, that doesn't really make it right. Your dad knows I used black magic. That's why I'm in trouble. Don't worry, I didn't tell him that you helped me with the spell." I said, "We told him I helped her." Josie said, "Thank you." Hope said "Landon and Rafael took off together. Landon told me he didn't know why he stole the knife. But then he lied about having it, so I don't know what to believe. Then he wrote me this letter that was... I don't know, sweet. Em, you got one too, what was it about?" 

I said, "It was from Raf he was just... saying goodbye." Josie said "That's cute. Lizzie's... sensitive. Our mom is going on these really long recruitment missions recently. That's why she's extra testy. She just really misses her." Hope and I said in unison "I know the feeling." Josie said "I remember how your mom used to come by the school. We all used to say how beautiful she was." I said, "She was." Josie sighed "We really should have sent you flowers or something." Hope said "You did. Your dad signed your names. It was obvious." Josie said "Okay. We definitely deserve a little bit of poking. I wonder where the boys are right now." Hope said "There's this spell that our Aunt Freya taught us. It's kind of like a full-immersion video chat." Josie said "Okay, but don't we need something of Landon's to... Is that the letter?" Hope had pulled it from her pocket as I said "You can't tell your dad. They don't teach this at school." Josie said, "This is the kind of secret that I can get behind." 

We held hands and did the spell the boys were in the woods around a campfire. Raf said, "Well, this is more like it." Landon said, "Get used to it." Raf said, "Everything cool?" Landon said "Yeah. It's all good. Hope? Ember? We should get out of here." Josie gasped pulling us from the spell Hope said "Why'd you stop?" Josie said "This is twin pain. Something's wrong. I think Lizzie's in trouble." we confronted Dorian about getting back home, and he said, "I'm sorry, I can't let you leave." Josie said, "No, I need to go home to see my sister." Dorian said "Your dad's with your sister. And I'm under strict orders to keep you here." Hope said "What? Why?" I said "And why are you researching that?" he was reading about gargoyles. I said "Well, we are going back to school, unless you'd like to try to stop us?" he sighed "Fine, give this to Dr. Saltzman maybe he can translate it." I smirked "Thanks." as Hope took the book and we headed to school.
