The next morning

Ugh. What time is it? I turn over and see that it's 5 in the morning. Ugh. It's so early, but it's probably best if I get up and study.

I get out of bed. I throw on a pair of jeans and a purple cropped t-shirt, of which Isabelle left for me yesterday. It's also a little chilly, I think I will wear the leather jacket as well.

Once I'm done changing, I grab my sketchbook and quietly make my way to the library, hoping not to wake anyone.

I pull out a chair and turn on a lamp. The book is in the exact place I left it. I open the book and shift through the different pages. Reading and sketching out symbols. Hmm, this book is teaching me a lot about the runes and the stele. I wonder if I will get a stele soon.

I continue looking through the pages before deciding to get up, and take a look at the other books. I believe this is where Hodge found the book yesterday. I move books while looking through the shelf. T

This book. 'The Mortal Cup'. I pull the book from the shelf. The cover has a gold, detailed cup on the red cover. I take it to the table, and start reading all about its history. The Mortal Cup is a sacred item to shadow hunters. It has the ability to create more shadow hunters.

Suddenly, I hear the door creaking open. However my gaze is focused onto the sketch of the mortal cup. Where is this sacred cup?

- "Good morning, y/n." I hear a voice from behind me.

I turn to meet the voice. It's Hodge.

- "Good morning, Hodge. How are you?" I smile

- "I'm doing good, and you?" He replies with a smile.

- "I'm alright." I respond as I turn back to my book.

- "The mortal cup." He points out.

- "Yeah, it's pretty interesting." I smile as I flip to the next page.

- "It is, indeed." He nods. "However.. It's missing. We do not have it. A young shadow hunter ran away with it, after Valentine was using it to experiment with.. demons."

- "Oh." That's all I can think to reply. "Do we know who and where this shadow hunter is?" I ask.

- "I believe you may. However, you didn't know about shadow hunters and demons, until Jace found you." He picks up my sketchbook, and looks at the picture drawn on the page. "She was your mother.."

W-what.

- "What?" I stand up confused.

He directs me to sit back down and pulls a chair next to me.

- "My mother died 6 years ago.." I stutter. "She died from cancer.."

- "She had the mortal cup, y/n." He responds.

Okay, so if she had the cup, and was a shadow hunter, why wouldn't she have told me?

- "She never told me any of this." I look towards the ground.

- "She was probably trying to protect you, y/n." He puts a hand on my shoulder. "And now we have to find it. We can't let Valentine get it."

- "O-okay."

Hodge stands up.

- "We will give you time to study, and train first." He smiles softly.

Jace quickly enters the room as Hodge leaves. He slowly runs towards me.

- "Y/n.. Are you okay? I heard everything.. About your mom.." He pulls me into a hug.

I hug him back for a short moment before responding.

- "Yeah.. I'm okay. Its been a while since she passed. I just miss her sometimes." I wipe a singular tear off my cheek.

He tilts my head up, looking towards him.

- "Hey, I'm here for you. Take your time. There's not too big of a rush." He smiles as he wipes off a tear from my cheek.

I smile. He's so sweet.

- "Thank you Jace. It means a lot to me." I look away.

I stand up, wipe my tears, and close the books.

- "When do I get a stele?" I question.

- "I can give you one right now, just be careful with it." He warns.

- "I will." I nod.

I'm ready to train. I know I can do this. I think I will go through my moms old stuff to try and find any hint or clue about shadow hunters...
