I take a deep breath, before getting up and walking off.

- "Where are you going?" He asks.

I continue walking.

- "Hey!" He chases after me.

Once I get to my apartment, Jace still following me, I quickly enter and make my way to my bedroom.

- "Y/n, what are you doing?" He questions with intensity, as he watches me rummage through my closet.

I try to reach the top shelf, but I'm too short for it. I try getting on the tips of my toes, until I stumble.

Fuck.

Jace comes up and reaches for it behind me. At this point, his chest is against my back.

- "Here." He says.

I turn around to face him. Oh. My. God.

He's standing over me, looking incredibly good. Maybe too good. He leans closer to me and for a second, I think he's gonna kiss me. I get nervous and grab the box from him and make my way over to my bed, and take a seat. Jace does the same.

I notice a little lock on the box. Shit. Where's the key?

I turn to dig through my nightstand drawer.

- "What's wrong, y/n?" He raises a brow.

- "I don't know where I left the key." I reply with disappointment.

- "Here, pass me the box." He makes a slight smile.

I hand him the box, and he manages to break the lock. Damn.

I take the box from him and open it. There's a letter and a stele.

- "At least you've got a stele now." He laughs.

I laugh in return.

I pick up the letter and unfold it.

"Dear y/n,

if you are reading this, it means you are ready to learn the truth about me, and about yourself. I'm very sorry that I hid this from you, but it wasn't safe. I could not risk you being in danger. I am a shadow hunter, and so are you. I ran away with you as a baby to protect you. If you are reading this, you probably know what a shadow hunter is. You were born strong. You are a fighter. I was very powerful myself, y/n, but you. You are the strongest shadow hunter I know. You will discover the power you have as time passes. You're not like the rest, y/n. Remember that. It's why I couldn't put you in danger. If you fall into the wrong hands, very bad things could happen. I can't tell you anything else in case this letter gets leaked to the wrong person.

Good luck, y/n. Remember that I love you no matter what."

I start crying and curl into a ball with my head on my knees. I really miss her.

Jace sees the pain on my face and comes closer to me and pulls me into his arms.

- "Shhh. It's okay. It's okay." He whispers.

- "I know. I just really miss her." I rest my head onto his shoulder.

- "I know.." He whispers.

I take a deep breath, and wipe away my tears before sitting up straight.

- "She basically said that I'm different. Stronger than other shadow hunters, and she couldn't put me in danger because it could go terribly if I'm in the wrong hands. She didn't tell me what I can do though. In case someone else gets the letter." I say.

He doesn't respond. He looks deep in thought.

- "You will just have to train for now. We will figure this out." He puts a hand on my back.

I nod.

I get up and walk out of the room. We make our way back to the institute. I head straight to my room, and make sure I have my books with me.

I sit on the window ledge with my moms stele. I examine it carefully. It's green. Forest green. It looks like a crystal. It has this beautiful, silver metal detailing wrapping around it. The metal detailing has metal leaf designs attaches to it.

I open my sketchbook and look at the different runes.

I pick up the stele and start carving a rune onto my skin.

Suddenly, Jace walks in.

- "Y/n, come with me. Quick!" He says worriedly.
