A week later May greeted me after class with that smile of hers, "How are you today, Professor?"
I decided to be in a good mood today, since I would be going on that blind date Fay set up for me. I smiled at May as I placed my bag over my shoulder, "Just about to head out."
"Oh yeah?" May stood in front of me, she was wearing light blue pants with a black shirt that had a name of a band on it, "Want to grab coffee?"
Without thinking I said, "I have a date today." I shocked myself when I said this out loud.
May was taken back by this as well, "Well," She stepped to the side of me so I could walk out the lecture room, "A date with your husband?" She started following me, "I didn't know you were married."
I turned towards her, "I'm not."
May smirked, "So it seems" I knew she knew that I was not married. When we went out for coffee, I noticed her looking down at my ring finger to see if there was a ring. I began to walk past her until May abruptly said, "Let's grab coffee tomorrow then." She handed me her phone, "Put in your number."
I held her phone in my hand then looked back up at her, "I'm your professor," She looked like a sad puppy when I was about to give her the phone back without putting in my number. I sighed, "Don't randomly text me."
May smiled as she looked down at her phone, "Maybe we can grab dinner tonight if your date doesn't work out."
I was about to laugh, "I'm not going out on a date with one of my students."
"It doesn't have to be a date," I handed her back the phone, her hand gentle caressed mine. It seemed as if she almost did it purposely, which caught me off guard a little. I stood there for a moment, a thought had wondered into my mind that should not have. The only reason I stopped thinking about it was because of the words,"I'll text you tonight!" Which May had loudly said as she exited the room.
If she did not walk away, I would have told her not to text me tonight, so she did not get the wrong idea. That day, I went on the date with Lillian just like I said I would, even though for some reason I did not have to desire to go anymore.
Lilian had short black hair, a nose piercing, her skin was pale and she was wearing thin black eyeliner and a dark green turtle neck with black leather pants. She also wore a couple of black rings and had two silver necklaces on.
"Augie?" She smiled as I walked up to the table she was sitting at while waiting for me.
"I'm sorry I'm late," I said in a sincere voice as I sat across from her, in the black chair of the Italian restaurant.
"Totally fine!" She smiled, "Do you eat Italian food?" She asked as she picked up the menu.
"Not in particular," I said as I looked around at the interior design of the restaurant. I have always found Italian restaurants a bit odd, mostly when it comes to the interior design that always tends to have a fancy yet cheap look to them. "I do like wine though," I said as I picked up the wine menu.
"Red or white wine?"
"Red wine" The server arrived as I said this, I ordered a glass of red wine and she ordered a glass of white wine.
"I prefer white" After this, we had the basic conversation that I have always hated about dates. Having to answer every question; what you do for a living, where you went to college, what you like to do on your free time, favorite food, hobbies, favorite movie or television show, favorite novel, if you prefer cats or dogs. I think that is why I never liked going out on dates, having to answer these questions even though you probably will never see that person again. I usually lie about these sort of questions, especially when it comes to them asking what I do in my free time, what hobbies I have, and if I prefer cats or dogs. Because the truth was, I did nothing on my free time nor did I have any hobbies other than drinking and writing, when I could write. And when it came to cats or dogs, I could care less and I could also careless about the other person's answers to all these unnecessary questions.
