I woke up the next day to find May downstairs about to head out, "Where you going?" I asked as I walked up behind her while she was closing the refrigerator door.
"School." She walked by me, "I'll be home later tonight, I'm closing the coffee shop today."
"You're coming home?" I asked shockingly.
"Yeah." May looked back at me and smiled, "I live here, don't I?" I stared at her as she started walking away, "You should probably get out of the house today, don't be such a hermit." May was carrying a brown bag on her shoulder and was wearing light blue shorts with a grey tank top.
I was less concerned about her leaving me this time around, I know I screwed up. But I could not wrap my head around why she would not decide to leave this time. I was planning to stay inside all day until I received a phone call from my brother, ending up in me taking a cab over to the company later that day.
"Your assistant is quite a catch." I said as I walked into his office.
"I know." He leaned back in the leather chair he was sitting in behind his desk, "She's a pretty kinky one too."
I sat in one of the chairs in front of his desk, "Of course you would be fucking her."
"Anyways, how've you been?"
I stared at him, "Enough small talk, cut to the chase."
"I saw your latest interview." Sage laughed as he stood up, "You're quite something else Augie, to admit-"
"Watch yourself." I cut him off, "I saw Daisy yesterday." I stopped talking, what else was I going to say?
"Well?" Sage leaned on his desk, "She knew huh?"
"She told me if I had told her that maybe things would have been different." I wanted to laugh.
"Makes sense." Sage was unbothered about what I had told him as if he already knew what had happened, "She probably loved you too."
"It doesn't matter now. Is this the reason why you called me here?"
"No." Sage started fiddling with the pen he was holding, "I'll be out of the country for a few months starting next week, I was going to ask if you could run things on this end while I handle everything abroad for a bit. It shouldn't be too hard."
"Fine."
"Really?" Sage was shocked, "I didn't think you'd agree that fast."
"It gives me an excuse to not be home."
"I thought May was living with you?"
"She is." Sage stared at me, as if he was waiting for me to finally tell him what happened.
I sighed, "She saw me kissing Daisy when we were talking on the patio. I guess she had come home without both of us noticing."
"You kissed Daisy? What the hell happened?"
"I'll be in the office next week, don't bother me too much." I walked out of the office and instantly was greeted by his blonde preppy assistant. I looked over at her, "I'll see you next week." I smiled, "You'll be able to compare what sibling is better at pleasing you, I meant, the company." Her eyes widened as I walked passed her, I had to humor myself in some way.
I decided to make a stop at Fay and Sidney's apartment before going home, to only find Sidney at home. She recently dyed her hair black again, which made her look younger, unlike the white hair color she had for a while.
"It's been a while." Sidney said as she handed me a bottle of beer, "Sorry I don't have wine."
"No this is fine." I sat down on her living room couch.
