Mike's P.O.V.
I know it's her! I just know it. She's probably, most definitely, been manipulating Emily's family. I'm positive Diana Thompson did something to Emily's father but I just don't have any proof. She's been trying to slow us down, I know it, but I just don't know why? Is she scared of us? Is she hiding something? So many questions! Anyway, I told Sam about my theories but he doesn't believe any of them are correct.
"I read something online this morning on how to get rid of evil spirits..." Sam says breaking me out of my thoughts.
"And how they have weaknesses. It said that if you ever need to get rid of an evil spirit all you need is their object of misfortune. Only there are many ways to destroy an object of misfortune and each one is different." I didn't know evil spirits had weaknesses. Then again I'm not very smart when it comes to ghost. Or at all. Object of misfortune? What's that? I didn't know that was a thing. But like I said before I'm not very smart.
"What's 'her' object of misfortune?" Emily asks intrigued. Yes, I used a big word! I'm so proud of myself. Now, back to the conversation!
"That I do not have an answer to?" Wait! Sam doesn't have an answer! That's new, Sam ALWAYS has an answer to everything.
"Sam, do you think you could search the internet to figure out what Diana's object of misfortune is?"
"I can't believe you just said her name." I say shocked. Emily shrugs her shoulders and turns back to Sam.
"I could try but..." I wonder if Sam could find out if Hannah likes me? Wait, is Nick eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? I thought he was allergic! On the other hand it could be a tuna sandwich. He loves tuna sandwiches but I'm more of a ham and cheese person myself.
"Ok, So now all we have to do is find the necklace and destroy it. This sounds a lot harder when I say it out loud." Did I just miss a whole conversation? Oh well, I'll just ask Sam about it later.
"What?" I ask speaking up.
"Dorothy said Diana's object of misfortune is a necklace." Emily explains with an annoyed expression. Emily rolls her eyes and turns back to, who I presume to be, Dorothy. Hey, she can't be annoyed at me! I wasn't even paying attention. Sam and Jake's expressions turn to one of realization, I think. I quickly make my expression match theirs so I'm, hopefully, blending in.
"Where?" It's now silent. I wonder if I can make my own book. The title will be 'Mike's Adventures! And the Others.' What do you think? Neat, right? I came up with it on my own. Suddenly Sam looks at me weirdly.
"Have you even been listening?"
"A little. Oh, I also have a question or two for you later. They're very important." I say nodding my head seriously. Sam nods back and turns back to the conversation. Jake gives me an annoyed expression when I turn to him. I think he overheard Sam and I's conversation. Oops...
"Dorothy says that the necklace is deep in the woods." That would be good in my book. Hidden deep within the woods. It's creepy, mysterious, and it gives an adventurous vibe.
"Yes." I hear Emily say bluntly.
"Let's get to work then." I utter standing up trying to cover up the fact that I haven't been listening to the conversation most of the time. Don't judge me! You try paying attention to someone without getting bored!
"Can we start tomorrow? I'm just not up for much of an adventure today."
"Emily, we might not be here tomorrow." I notice Jake say a little harshly even though I'm pretty sure he didn't mean to.
"Jake, she won't come after all of us in one night."
"That's because she only needs to get one person! You!" Emily lowers her head so that she is looking at the floor, or so it looks. Yeah, I have got to start paying attention more.
"Jake, please. I just want to focus on my dad right now." Poor Emily. She has to deal with a lot giving her no time to spend with her family. I mean with "her" and all including school, it's difficult. I look to Jake to see his eyes soften all the sudden.
"Ok. Tomorrow." Jake says softly. Did he actually agree with Emily after he was against her?
I have got to get some tips from Jake so I can try it with Hannah. In my defense, she's cute. Emily soon leaves and it's just Sam, Jake, and I left sitting at the table. Sam briefly explains to me everything that we were going over while I wasn't paying any attention. Jake had left sometime into the brief summary and Sam and I are the only ones left at the table.
"Any questions?"
"Yeah. What do you think of 'Mike's Adventures! And the others,' as a book title of mine?" Sam gives me an annoyed look.
"I think it's dumb."
"It's not dumb! In fact, it's clever!"
"No, it's not."
"Yes, it is! I bet it would be the best seller on the market ever in history!" Sam scoffs in disagreement.
"Please, it'd be the stupidest book ever. It wouldn't even get published and if it would it would be titled 'The Stupidest Book of All Times.'"
Sam and I bicker back and forth in a quarrel about my book. I don't know why he's even complaining! He would be one of the main characters... as my assistant... ok, now I understand why he's complaining. I want to say one last thing before my chapter of the story ends...
MIKE OUT!
