Emily's P.O.V.

There in the doorway stood a woman all in black yet for some reason I couldn't see her face. Her head suddenly snaps to me and all she does is stare at me with her non-seeable eyes. She suddenly begins stalking towards me slowly in a predatory way. Then "she" lunges for Jake and I. Jake and I scream in horror and run in the direction we had been previously walking in to find our way out. "She" doesn't stay behind though she comes after us and as cliche as it is I misplace my footing and trip over air. Jake is in front of me and I'm guessing he noticed that I wasn't behind him and had fallen because he turns around all of the sudden and starts running back towards me.
"Go!" I yell knowing "she" is coming up from behind me only I don't know how close "she" is. Jake doesn't listen to me though, he just keeps running faster and faster as he tries to get to me before "she" does.
When Jake finally reaches me he gets to his knees and kneels on the floor next to me as he wraps his arms around me in a protective manner. We both look in the direction "she" was coming from. "She" was really close and she only got closer by the minute. I turn my head to the point where my head is against Jake's chest. I close my eyes and hold onto Jake tightly afraid he would disappear and I would be left by myself with "her."
   'We're gonna die!'
"Don't be afraid." I hear a female voice speak out.
I turn my head and suddenly I see a bright light through my eyelids. Curiosity gets the best of me and I hesitantly open my eyes. Once my eyes are fully open and adjust to the bright light, I'm amazed by the sight right before my eyes.
There stood a girl who looked to be not much older than me maybe fifteen, sixteen. She is bare footed, she has forest green eyes that are very captivating, straight black hair, she is wearing a blue nightgown, and she seems to be surrounded by a bright light, maybe glow, all around her. Seriously, she has a light that's surrounding her no joke. I stare her in the eyes and she stares back. I gently tug on Jake's shirt sleeve without breaking eye contact with the girl. Jake looks up at me with confusion which confuses me. Can't he see her too?
     "What?"
     "Can't you see her?"
     "See who?"
"The girl! The girl in the blue nightgown!" Jake shakes his head 'no.'
"No." Now I'm really confused. Why am I the only one who can see her? He can see "her" so why is it different with this girl? Am I going crazy?
"He's not gifted like you Emily. He nor the other kids in Bannack can see me." The girl says.
"Then how come he can see 'her?'" I ask. I need the answer to this question or else this is gonna be bothering me until I get the answer. I see Jake giving me a confused expression through the corner of my eye but I ignore him.
"That's because 'she' allows him and the other children of Bannack to see her. She wants their souls all to herself."
"But why? What will she gain out of it?" I ask but the girl doesn't answer me. I'm a bit scared now and a little freaked out maybe more than I had originally been.
"Who are you?" I ask the girl just now realizing that I don't even know her name.
"My name is Dorothy, Dorothy Dunn. I died here because of 'her.' I came to help and protect you and all of the children of Bannack." Dorothy says as she too explains to me why she's here. At least she answered my next question.
    "All of us?"
"Emily who are you talking too?" Jake asks with a bit of confusion, or a lot, in his voice. Oops! I forgot Jake was here.
     "Dorothy, Dorothy Dunn."
"There's no one there Emily. At least not anymore." Jake says with a bit of sadness in his voice.
"You, Jake, and Jake's two friends. Sam and Mike. You four just might be the key to destroying 'her.'" Dorothy says interrupting Jake and I's conversation.
"What if we can't beat her?"
"Emily, there is no one there." Jake says with a hint of frustration in his voice.
"Jake, just because you can't see her doesn't mean she's not real." Jake just stares at me and doesn't saying a single word.
"I have to go." Jake suddenly says getting up off the floor.
     "Jake..."
"Just show me back to the door."
I stare at Jake in astonishment for a minute before I slowly rise to my feet and lead Jake back to the door with Dorothy's help because I still don't know where the staircase is. It took a couple of minutes to find the staircase but once we found them we went downstairs. Jake tells his parents that he wants to leave since we have school tomorrow. Jake is about to walk out the door after his parents but before he can I ask him,
"Do you believe me?" Jake stops abruptly in his tracks.
"I don't know what to believe anymore." Jake says before he continues on walking after his parents and to his house. I close the door and turn to my parents who were right behind me.
"I'm going to bed." I run up to my room to find Dorothy there waiting for me. I get ready for bed not wanting to talk anymore, maybe tomorrow. I hop into my now made bed, with my now made room, and soon fall asleep as I hope I hadn't just ended my friendship, or what seemed to be a friendship, with Jake.
