 One and 1/2 weeks later:

I woke up in a dimly lit room. I could hardly see where I was my vision was blurry. My ears were ringing loudly so much that I lifted my arm to my head. My arm felt as though it was weighed down by a rock, but I soon noticed the IV attached to me. The constant beeping of what I thought was an alarm clock was frustrating me. I turned slowly to find it and I heard my Mother's voice. "Oh, Delila you're awake! Thank the good lord! I'm going to go get the doctor." She patted my hand before I could understand where I was. I tried to grab her not wanting her to leave me. I was trying to make sense of it all. I needed to remember, there were flashes of Luke and him yelling at me. I cringed at the thought. Then peaceful water, "Oh God what have I done?" I whispered to myself as the tears started flowing.

The door opened and my mother rushed to my side taking my hand again. A tall older man with salt and pepper hair stood at the foot of my bed reading my chart then started checking all the machines I was hooked up to. The commotion was making me dizzy. I felt someone slip their hand into mine, it was unfamiliar to me, so I retreated from it.

"Oh Delila I'm so happy you're awake, you really gave us a scare." I looked up at who had my hand and retreated even further to the other side of the bed when I saw it wasn't Luke. I panicked. Where was he? I scanned the room my heart felt broken, what had I done?

"Luke, where's Luke?' I said the tears stinging my eyes. "Where. Am. I? Why are you here Brent?"

"Honey, you're still in Stray Falls, the hospital called Brent because apparently, you had him as your emergency contact?" My mother sweetly said.

I could tell she was trying to get me to calm down but my insides were burning from the aching in my chest. The beeping was faster, and the beads of sweat were breaking out on my forehead I reached for my mother with both hands and yelled but my voice came out weak and raspy, "No, no, no, get him out. Get out!" I felt him leaning down closer to me as if I couldn't hear him, "Delila is this about the phone call, it was nothing I was just upset. Let's get you back to Boston where you belong." I felt as if I was trapped in some restraint holding me down when all I wanted to do was run. I needed to run. "Please leave, just go." I cried into my mother's hands.

"I think you should go, son. I don't want my daughter upset anymore." My mother sternly told Brent. The doctor agreed with her advice and walked him out of the room.

I was still crying into my mother's hands, but I could feel him watching me the entire way as he backed out of the room. The beeping started to slow as did my breathing, but the pain never left. The doctor was reading my vitals the entire time, with Brent gone, he finally spoke, "Good call Delila. Between you and I, it's Luke who really loves you. He hasn't left you since you've been here. He sleeps here every night right over there. Poor guy has been worried sick about you. You have a pretty good bump on your head, but you will be fine, your black eye will fade as well. As for the other news, Mrs. Wilks may speak to Delila alone please?"

My mother looked worried I gave her a reassuring smile. "Sure doctor." and she left the room.

The doctor sat down beside me. I didn't like the way he was looking at me. I started to panic again.

"What is it, doctor? Is it my heart? Is that why my chest hurts so bad?" I struggled to get the words out.

He laughed a little and sat at my bedside, "No, I think you may have panic attacks, Delila. I can give you something for that however we will have to find an alternate route for a while. You are healthy besides the bump on your head that put you in a coma for a week and a half, but I wasn't worried. You're a fighter." He smiled and pulled his glasses down as if he wanted to search my soul, "I just wanted to let you know you are pregnant. We did some bloodwork on you and it's early but it's positive. I ran it twice to be sure." He smiled at me and patted my hand, "you will need to lay off the whiskey and the late-night river swimming for a while Delila. You're Daddy always said you were a wild one."
