i have a lot of opinions on how will byers' sexuality was treated this season
like a lot of opinions
and since this is a byler book i must speak on it-
SPOILERS FOR ALL OF SEASON 4!!!!
1. watching mike and will's friendship be broken and ignored like this hurts so bad
mike going from saying that the best thing he ever did was ask will to be friends in season 2 to saying that his life started when he met el, literally when will disappeared, in season 4
will crying in the car alone and mike not noticing or caring at all
mike not really paying attention to will and focusing more on eleven in general
it just hurts so much, they used to be such great friends, what happens?
2. will is worth less than mileven
gosh this just, hurts, that whole painting situation, will saying that eleven commissioned the painting when she didn't and using his painting as a metaphor to make mike feel better in terms with eleven, him doing that whole speech about eleven but really he was just lying and talking about himself, it hurts so bad to see that will felt like a mistake and all of that , but mike never even questioned it, and believed he was talking about el
plus, that one shot of mike and el reuniting with will in the background looking sad , that sort of shot happened a lot this season, very much showing that will is a third wheel and matters so much less
it's like will is just in the background
3. is will gay? hm.
yes. yes he is. the gay subtext is so clearly there , with every longing look towards mike, jonathan saying that he loves will no matter what, and more, there's always been so much subtext there but the show refuses to say will is gay, they refuse to admit it, so people can deny his sexuality all he wants
his representation (and robin's) means so so so much to me, to see people claim that it's just hardcore byler stans making up that will is gay and forcing it on him, hurts, representation means so so fucking much, i wish we could just get confirmation that he's gay
4. will byers hasn't been happy ever huh
all he's been is mistreated and gone through terrible things, emotionally and physically, he deserves so much better gosh
