when the two got back to the house, Katie went straight up to her bedroom before Conrad could even say a word. Jeremiah and Steven were still playing their video games in the living room, except were dressed for the party now.

"what'd you do, Con?" Jeremiah asked, sighing as he looked at his brother.

"nothing!" Conrad said, an annoyed groan coming right after. "she just- I don't know what her problem is!"

Jeremiah shook his head and set down the controller. "you are banned from Katie interactions until further notice." he warned, walking towards the staircase. "I'll try and talk to her, you go get ready."

when the younger Fisher brother got to Katies bedroom, he knocked lightly on the door. it was extremely likely that she was changing, so he was being patient.

"what." she groaned, opening the door a few minutes later.

Jeremiah raised his eyebrows as he looked at her outfit. she was wearing a pair of light blue ripped jeans, a black top, and her crusty nikes she always wore. her hair however, it was a disaster. "you look-"

Katie shook her head. putting her hand up to stop him from speaking. "I don't want to hear it." she said, walking back over to her mirror with the hair brush.

the boy watched as her face scrunched up each time there was a knot... which was too often for her liking. "can I please just-" he began, taking the hairbrush from her, "-trust me, I can fix this monstrosity."

"one bad tug and you're done for, curly." she warned, staring at him through the mirror.

to her surprise, Jeremiah was pretty good at not ripping her hair out. not that she expected him to do that, but it was a comfort. he was very gentle, something Katie admired about Jeremiah. he had always been the softest one.

within minutes, every knot in Katies hair was gone, but Jeremiah didn't stop brushing her hair. instead, he stared at her through the mirror just as she did to him. Katie liked the way Jeremiahs hands were placed on her hips, and how his eyes were looking into hers through the mirror.

"jere! Katie! lets go!" susannah called from the bottom of the stair case.

moment ruined, Jeremiah thought to himself. the two of them awkwardly shifted away from each other and went downstairs.

"there's no way that we are riding with you guys." Steven said to the moms, "we will take the jeep, you guys take my moms car." before they could argue, Steven was already running out the door with the keys to the jeep.

laurel sighed. "how is that my son." she said under her breath, walking with susannah to her car.

"I think I might die of boredom." Katie complained, half asleep on the couch during the book party. she was crushed between Steven and Jeremiah, the three of them watching Conrad drink a whole bottle of chardonnay.

"I second that." Steven complained.

"third." Jeremiah raised his hand.

the three of them sat there, waiting for Conrad to come back to the couch. when he finally did, he had suggested that they all leave. none of them could figure out where they could go.

"how about we go buy some weed from that guy with the rainbow tattoo." Jeremiah suggested.

Katie sat up with a smirk. "can we? I need a little something."

Conrad looked at her like she was crazy. "absolutely not." he said, "besides, he got arrested last summer."

"Katie I didn't know you smoked weed."
