the following morning, Katie woke up with a pounding headache. it was still early... too early for someone with a hangover like hers to be awake. the time on her phone read 8:00am, one of the earliest times she's been awake in a while. of course, that excluded the mornings she would have to wake up for school.
she spotted the envelope from susannah sitting next to her phone, along with a pen. without another thought, Katie checked yes and left it there. if susannah finds it, then that's the sign she should do it. if not, then she could care less.
the house was silent as she tip toed down the hallway and into the bathroom, meaning everyone was still asleep. she was happy, mostly because there was less of a chance that she would get scolded for her behavior from the night prior.
she was wearing more comfortable clothes now as well. Jeremiah had convinced her last night to not fall asleep in what she was wearing because of the "bad vibes" it gave him. she told him it was stupid, but she wanted to be comfortable when sleeping so she changed into a black tank top and grey sweatpants.
when she got downstairs, the first thing she did was curl up in a ball on the couch. she covered herself with the large soft gray blanket that was folded in the small storage cube beside the couch. almost immediately, she was sound asleep.

Conrad, Jeremiah, Laurel, and Steven were all downstairs in the kitchen within the next hour preparing a quick breakfast. although, Conrad was still hungover as well so he was on the opposite side of the couch as Katie.
"do we really have to sit for our portraits?" Jeremiah asked Laurel as he made some type of smoothie in the blender. "can't she just look at a photo?"
hovering over his shoulder was Steven, watching his every move.
"she needs to see you in the flesh in order to capture your essence." Laurel answered, "you know, while you're still young and full of hope."
both boys laughed, Jeremiah pointing over to the couch where the two hungover teens laid. "well, I know those two do not have hope. they're hopeless actually." he said, turning on the blender. "but my hangover smoothies, they cure all."
the loud sound scared Katie, causing her to jolt awake. the sudden movement hurt her head, her hand quickly grabbing it. "what the fuck." she groaned. it didn't take her long to notice Conrad was laying down opposite of her, also holding his head.
"come on, sit for your portraits." Laurel said, "I don't see Conrad or Katie complaining."
Jeremiah laughed. "they'll be complaining when they are actually conscious, trust me." he said, walking over to the two and handing them each a glass of a green smoothie. "here."
Katie hesitated when taking it, looking at the drink curiously. "what's in this?"
"its not going to kill you, just drink it."
the girl wanted to puke as she drank it. "yuck." she said, her facial expression must've matched how she felt because the boys all let out a small laugh. "this is disgusting."
Jeremiah nodded. "which is exactly why you shouldn't be getting drunk." he said, pointing at the two. "but I promise if you drink it, you will feel better."
"alright man hurry your ass up. I can't be late for my first day of work." Steven said, "those old country club boomers are gonna tip me so hard they won't know what hit them!"
Katie took the smoothie and stood up, walking more towards the kitchen. "you two are working this summer?" she asked.
both boys nodded, Jeremiah pointing at his t-shirt. "I'm lifeguarding, Steven is working at the snack stand." he turned around and noticed belly was walking in, greeting her with a "good morning".
