I waltzed back into the foyer where the owners were waiting for us, and I stuck my hand out to shake hers.
"Why did you run off like that? Is everything okay?" The woman asked me as she shook my hand.
"I'm sorry, probably should have told you sooner and maybe even introduced myself. I'm Sarah, I have abilities that others don't have. I saw little Ophelia in the other room, and felt the need to comfort her because she is terrified and confused. But there is a man here that I do not feel comfortable around, can you tell us more about that maybe?" I asked her as I stepped back to Zak's side.
"The original owners of the plantation had plenty of slaves, and there was one such slave that poisoned the children in order to get back at the man of the house, John, for raping her. Although, it is said they were having an affair and she accidentally got pregnant, which in turn made him poison his own kids and blame it on her to have her killed. He is said to have murdered 3 other female slaves that he had ongoing affairs with, whether or not they were pregnant too is a mystery. I whole heartedly believe that Tatiana, the female slave, was trying to save the children and failed."
Her voice started fading into the back of my mind once I began to hear the male voice I oh so dreaded. I politely excused myself from the interview, walking up the stairs and into the first room on the right. I gently brushed my fingers across the wall, and got a shock of electricity through my entire body. I closed my eyes, focusing on whatever it was that was drawing me to this room, only to see a very angry male face staring back at me, an evil grin spreading across his face. He had tasseled grey hair, and eyes that could pierce into ones soul. I didn't back down from him, letting him know I was in control and he wasn't about to get his way with me.
Brave are we?
"Get out of my head. You are not in control here. I won't let you scare me away." I snapped back at him.
Tsk tsk. You really should leave. This is my home, and you are not welcome.
"For a dead guy, you're awfully bossy. You can't hurt me, and you won't. I think the one that needs to get lost is you. Killing your own children? Thats a new low, especially since you were the one forcing the affair on Tatiana."
The man lunged at me, hand outstretched grabbing my throat choking me. I struggled against him, but it did no good. My breath was being taken away from me, and there was nothing I could do about it. I saw a bright light flash before me, and all of a sudden I could easily breathe again. I collapsed on the floor, my hand on my throat as I caught my breath.
He won't harm you as long as I am around.
Tatiana appeared before me, reassuring that I was now safe. I heard foot steps come running up the stairs as I gathered myself to respond to Tatiana. Before I could answer her, she disappeared and Zak was standing in the room holding me upright with Aaron and Nick right behind him, concerned looks upon their faces.
"Sarah, are you alright? Where did you go? What happened?" Zak asked me frantically, holding me in his arms.
"I'm fine. Tatiana saved me. That John guy is really grumpy." I said with a chuckle.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Relax. Some old dude from over 100 years ago doesn't scare me. Besides, Tatiana said she will be watching over us and protecting us from him."
"Dude, no more running off without us. Every time you do shit happens, you gotta be more careful." Aaron said to me, a fatherly tone to his voice.
I rolled my eyes at him as I got a playful punch in the arm from Nick. I was ready to investigate, and I wasn't going to let this grumpy old man scare me away. I was going to find out the truth about what actually happened all those years ago, whether this horrible man liked it or not. My mind was racing with anger and worry for those children, and thoughts of how confused and scared they truly must be. I wanted to cry for them, I wanted to comfort them. My heart ached at the fact that their precious lives were so selfishly snatched away from them, all because their father didn't want his reputation ruined.
Several hours passed, and it was finally nightfall and we were getting locked down in the grounds of the Magnolia Plantation. My gut was retching because of all the nerves, along with my racing heart. I took a deep breath, turned on my camera, and we began walking around. I kept drifting back to the beautiful magnolia tree in the front yard, something constantly pulling me there as if something important happened there. Camera high, I walked back to the tree with the three men following behind me closely. When I turned my flashlight on to be able to see the tree in a more glamorous light, I saw something propped up against it that made me audibly gasp.
