I drift in and out of people's lives
Like a feather in the wind
You'll never really know I'm there
Until I start leaving again
I don't make profound connections
Because I'm afraid of what I might lose
I don't try to compete with everyone else
And I'll never ask you to choose
I prefer to stick to the sidelines
Because the spotlights hurt my eyes
I hide behind an uninterrupted smile
So you won't know it's a disguise
People tend to forget I'm there
When I'm in a crowded room
I can disappear for days on end
And I'm bound to do it soon
Don't worry if you don't notice I'm gone
I was never meant to stay anyway
But I know you won't miss me for long
I'll be forgotten in just a day
